Cricket Scotland and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association did not hold back their criticism of the ICC on Monday afternoon. The two boards issued a joint statement condemning the international governing body for changing the structure of the 2027 World Cup midway through the cycle.
This is not the first time the associate members have expressed their discontent over the newly announced World Cup format earlier in the summer, but it certainly is the strongest stand anyone has taken against Jay Shah and his board.
Scotland and Netherlands revolt against new World Cup format
In a statement issued by the two high-ranking associate nations, Scotland and the Netherlands expressed their disappointment over the abrupt changes to the format of next year's World Cup in Africa.
The statement noted the timing of the changes to be unsettling for the teams working hard to qualify for the main event throughout the World Cup cycle.
Just like these boards, many believe that this is a jolt to the ambition to globalise the sport, after recent progress made through the 20-team T20 World Cups.
"We have significant concerns about both the impact of these changes and the process through which they have been introduced. The changes risk weakening the integrity and credibility of international cricket, and only highlight the importance of strong governance, transparent decision-making and effective engagement with Members," the statement read.
"The timing of these changes, with less than eighteen months until the tournament, has given affected Members limited opportunity to contribute to the process or adapt," they added.

Scotland and Netherlands call out ICC's miscommunication
Both Scotland and the Netherlands have assured that they would be willing to work together with Jay Shah and the ICC to resolve the matters. Nonetheless, they have subtly called out how things were handled by them.
Boards revealed that the ICC did not consult them before making the changes and have neither given any satisfactory response after meeting them in recent weeks.
"Following the announcement of the changes, Cricket Scotland, the KNCB and other Associate Members met twice with the ICC, seeking official written communication on the changes and greater clarity around the processes involved."
"We also requested positive action to strengthen future operational decision-making and an invitation to bilateral planning meetings with Full Members. Since the second meeting more than two weeks ago, there has been no further response from the ICC, which is disappointing and disrespectful given the significance of the issues raised," the statement added.
What changes are concerning Scotland and the Netherlands?
Initially, when the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027 format was announced, the tournament was extended to 14 teams, who were supposed to play in two groups of seven teams each.
However, last month, the ICC made sudden changes to this, and the main event will be played among 12 teams. While it will begin with 14 teams, two sides will be knocked out before the main tournament begins.
This received widespread criticism from fans, media and other associate members. The likes of the Namibian captain, Gerhard Erasmus, Scotland captain, Richie Berrington and other Associate stars have publicly called out the ICC in the past month.
