In a historic announcement, the Caribbean Premier League, hosted in the West Indies, will have several additions to its upcoming version in CPL 2026. There will be a seventh team in the competition for the first time.
Returning to Jamaica for the first time in six years, the mega tournament of the West Indies will see Jamaica Kingsmen as their debut team in the 2026 edition. Notably, this new team, Jamaica Kingsmen, was formerly called Jamaica Tallawahs, whose owners have moved to Antigua as the team ceased to exist after the 2023 season.
The addition of this team, alongside the six other premier franchises, will see 39 fixtures in CPL 2026, taking place from August 7 to September 20.
CPL 2026 Announced As Jamaica Kingsmen Step In As 7th team
The six premier teams that mainly headline the Caribbean Premier League are Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, St Lucia Kings, and Trinbago Knight Riders.
The inaugural edition of this popular franchise cricket tournament was back in 2013, and ever since, it has been a popular celebration of cricket in the West Indies.
The defending champions, Trinbago Knight Riders, have been one of the favourite sides in the tournament, but with the addition of Jamaica Kingsmen, the tournament now promises much more excitement with a higher number of fixtures added to the schedule.
The league stage of the tournament will continue till September 13, starting from August 7, and will be followed by the Eliminator clash on September 16, Qualifier 1 on September 17, Qualifier 2 on September 18, and the final to be played on September 20 in Barbados.

CPL 2026 To Witness Mega Expansion of The Tournament
Notably, the Arnos Vale Stadium in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will host CPL matches for the first time. Barbados will also host the CPL final in the history of the competition, adding to the excitement of the league.
Arnos Vale has hosted 36 men's international matches and five T20 World Cup 2024 matches at the stadium, which the CEO of CPL, Pete Russell, was very proud of.
"With an expanded tournament in 2026, we are delighted to be bringing CPL cricket to St Vincent & the Grenadines for the first time. We are equally excited about hosting finals week in Barbados, where we have ambitious plans to deliver the biggest and most memorable finale in the tournament's 14-year history. Each year, our goal is to raise the bar, and I am more confident than ever that CPL 2026 will be our best season yet," Russell said earlier.
CPL 2026 Window To Clash With The Hundred
As the CPL has chosen the window of August to September, it will overlap with Men's The Hundred in England, which might affect the availability of Nicholas Pooran and Sherfane Rutherford during the final stages of MI London’s season.
The season will begin with the opener between Jamaica Kingsmen and Antigua and Barbuda Falcons on August 7 at Kingstown, followed by a clash between defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on the next day at the same venue.
With the expansion of the tournament, the Caribbean Premier League is likely to feature a revamped structure, which would require a player draft or auction process system to rebuild the team list.
This means a complete overhaul of the core of each franchise, as an US-based group led by Fawad Sarwar, owning the rights to Jamaica Kingsmen, will also have a chance to build their troop from zero.
