Mumbai Indians (MI) head into a crucial clash against Punjab Kings on May 14 with major uncertainty around two of their biggest stars, captain Hardik Pandya and star batter Suryakumar Yadav.
While MI’s playoff hopes have already taken a serious hit this season, fans are still waiting for clarity on whether Hardik and SKY will feature in the Dharamsala encounter. And right now, the situation looks very different for both players.
Latest update on Hardik Pandya’s availability for PBKS vs MI clash
Captain Hardik Pandya has experienced a miserable IPL 2026 campaign, both as a player and as the skipper. The star Indian all-rounder has been unable to perform with both bat and ball.
However, at present the biggest concern for Mumbai Indians remains Hardik’s fitness. According to recent reports, the MI skipper is yet to fully recover from his back injury and has officially been ruled out of the clash against Punjab Kings for today, May 14.
Hardik has already missed Mumbai Indians’ previous matches, and the franchise is continuing to closely monitor his recovery. While he has resumed light training sessions, he is still not match-fit enough to return to competitive action.

Hardik trained for more than three hours recently as part of his recovery process, but the franchise is still being cautious with his workload.
The all-rounder had also not travelled with the squad initially ahead of the PBKS fixture, which further increased doubts over his participation.
If Hardik remains unavailable for longer, it would be another massive blow for Mumbai Indians in an already difficult campaign.
Big relief for Mumbai Indians on Suryakumar Yadav
Unlike Hardik, there is no injury concern around Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the PBKS game. The stand-in captain is expected to be available for selection and should continue leading the side if Hardik Pnadya remains unavailable.
SKY has already captained Mumbai Indians during Hardik’s absence in recent matches and remains one of the few positives for MI this season.
The franchise will once again depend heavily on the experienced batter in the middle order, especially against a Punjab Kings attack that has looked sharp in home conditions.
Huge match for both teams
The PBKS vs MI clash comes at a critical point in IPL 2026. Punjab Kings are still pushing hard for a playoff spot, while Mumbai Indians are trying to finish the season strongly after an inconsistent campaign.
Without Hardik Pandya, MI lose balance in both departments. His ability to contribute with bat and ball has been badly missed in recent games. On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav’s presence provides Mumbai with stability and leadership under pressure.
For now, all signs point towards Hardik sitting out once again, while SKY is expected to take the field against PBKS at the magnificent Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala.
