In a significant development, the waiting game continues to see a glimpse of MS Dhoni in IPL 2026. The former CSK captain, who is yet to play a game in the tournament, has been ruled out of CSK's upcoming clash against Lucknow Super Giants.
Notably, MS Dhoni has been out of action because of side strain and calf injuries. There were reports that the wait might be over as reports suggested that Thala might travel to Lucknow for upcoming match on May 15.
MS Dhoni To Stay In Chennai For Recovery
In the latest events, a report from Vijay Tagore of Cricbuzz confirmed that MS Dhoni has stayed back in Chennai to continue his recovery. Contrary to earlier reports, the 44-year-old has not travelled with the squad to Lucknow, ruling him out of the upcoming match vs LSG.
Notably, CSK will play their 12th game of the season against LSG, which means that there are only 2 matches left for MS Dhoni to return in case the Men in Yellow fails to qualify for IPL 2026 playoffs.
MS Dhoni Missing From CSK's Lucknow Visit
On May 13, CSK posted a video of their squad's arrival in Lucknow ahead of the much-awaited clash. The fans were disappointed to see MS Dhoni not travelling with the side. The video featured every big star except MS Dhoni.

Notably, the 44-year-old previously travelled to Hyderabad, Mumbai and a few other away locations but his decision to not travel to Lucknow has not gone well with the fans.
CSK Fans Furious With MS Dhoni's Absence
Notably, it has been almost an entire season without MS Dhoni in action. The former India captain was touted to return after every CSK match, but same old story, ditching out at the last minute.
This time around, it seems that fans' patience level is also over as Chennai Super Kings recieved a lot of flak for travelling without MS Dhoni. The fans alleged that it is just a trick to sell tickets, otherwise the fans would not be much interested in watching the game. Here are some of the reactions.
CSK's IPL 2026 Performance In MS Dhoni's Absence
Chennai Super Kings got off to the worst possible start in MS Dhoni's absence as the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side suffered three straight defeats. However, the Men in Yellow found their footing back in the tournament in the middle-phase.
In the last five matches, the five-time winners have won four and lost a solitary game. As a result, CSK are placed 5th on the table with 12 points in 11 matches. They have a strong chance to qualify for playoffs if they win all remaining three matches. Notably, CSK finished 10th on the table.
