In a significant development, England Cricket has been in the news recently for Test captain Ben Stokes and fast bowling all-rounder Gus Atkinson.

Both players have been ruled out of the ENG vs NZ 2nd Test following an alleged breach of team discipline after England’s victory in the opening Test at Lord's.

However, amid all this controversy, Ben Stokes is expected to play in the County Championship while England take on New Zealand in the second Test at The Oval.

Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson were left out of the squad as investigations continue into events that took place in central London.

While the inquiry remains ongoing, the ECB has confirmed that neither player was available for selection for the upcoming Test.

Investigation Continues On Ben Stokes And Gus Atkinson After Nightclub Incident

The controversy started with the incident that took place after England's win against New Zealand at Lord's.

Ben Stokes and Atkinson reportedly remained out beyond the team's midnight curfew, which is considered a breach of England's internal rules.

According to reports, both players were present during an altercation involving Saracens rugby player Totoa Auvaa at a London nightclub. During the incident, a member of England's security staff was allegedly struck and later required medical treatment.

Reports have indicated that neither Stokes nor Atkinson started the confrontation. However, the fact that they broke team protocol has placed them under scrutiny.

The ECB is conducting separate investigations to establish the full details of what happened. Until those inquiries are completed, the two players remain unavailable for England selection.

Ben Stokes Could Return To County Action During England's Absence

With England preparing for the second Test against New Zealand, Ben Stokes is expected to spend the week with Durham and may feature in their County Championship fixture against Northamptonshire.

The match begins next Friday and could provide the England captain with valuable time in the middle.

Although Durham have not officially confirmed his participation, reports suggest the 35-year-old is likely to play if available.

The potential return would allow him to continue building rhythm after recently featuring in county matches against Worcestershire and Kent before the start of the New Zealand Test series.

Will Ben Stokes Play In The ENG vs NZ 3rd Test?

It is important to note that if Ben Stokes plays for Durham, it will provide him with practice time after being away from the national side.

The England captain has had limited opportunities to play county cricket in recent seasons and has often prioritised fitness due to a demanding international schedule.

Earlier this year, Stokes also faced challenges after suffering a facial injury during pre-season preparations with Durham.

While a return for Durham appears likely, uncertainty remains over when Ben Stokes will next play for England.

The third Test against New Zealand will begin at Trent Bridge on June 25, but reports suggest he could miss that match as well, depending on the progress of the investigations.
