Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of Team India squad for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Asia Cup and the 2026 Women’s Asian Games. The senior India batter recently sustained an injury during The Hundred Women’s 2026 season in England.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now named a replacement player for injured Rodrigues.

BCCI names replacement for Jemimah Rodrigues

The BCCI has named prolific opening batter Pratika Rawal as an official replacement of injured Jemimah Rodrigues. The Indian board confirmed the same on Friday, August 14, i.e., roughly a few weeks prior to the launch of the Women’s Asia Cup 2026.

It is worth noting that even though Rodrigues has been ruled out of both, the Asia Cup and the 2026 Asian Games; Rawal was named as her replacement only for the immediate multi-nation event in the UAE.

The selection committee is yet to name the senior cricketer’s replacement for the Asian Games, set to be played in Japan next month. 

What happened to Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues recently travelled to England to play The Hundred Women’s 2026 season for the Southern Brave franchise. In six matches, the senior Indian middle-order batter charted 143 runs at a prolific average of 35.75 and with a strike rate of 131.19. 

However, Rodrigues was later ruled out halfway into the season after she picked up a right hamstring injury. She has now returned to India and was recently assessed by the BCCI medical team at the BCCI CoE. 

Ruled out of the 2026 Asia Cup and the 2026 Asian Games, it remains to be seen when will the 26-year-old make her return to competitive cricket.

How will Jemimah’s absence impact India

One of the seniormost members of the Indian Women’s team, Jemimah Rodrigues possesses a wealth of T20I experience with 131 caps. 

With nearly 3,000 career runs in her name, the cricketer holds a penchant of coming up clutch in the middle-order for her side, especially in crunch run chases. Jemimah’s absence is likely to leave a significant void in India’s middle order, particularly given her ability to accelerate the scoring rate and anchor tricky run chases under pressure.

When was the last time Pratika Rawal played for India?

Notably, Pratika Rawal is yet to make her T20I debut for the Indian Women’s cricket team. The 26-year-old is also yet to play a single WPL match in her career.

Pratika last represented the national side during India’s multi-format tour of Australia earlier this year. She made her Test debut on the tour, and celebrated the occasion with a courageous half-century at the WACA.  

With minimum T20 experience in her credit, Pratika Rawal will be hoping to make the most of her newfound opportunity at the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE in a couple of weeks’ time.
