In a news which came as a huge delight for RCB fans, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is finally giving the deserving place that two-time IPL captain Rajat Patidar deserves.

The BCCI is looking at Rajat Patidar as an important No. 4 for India in T20Is, a position currently held by Suryakumar Yadav. As reported by Cricbuzz, Patidar might directly get a place in India’s playing XI in T20Is, leaving Suryakumar Yadav out of the mix.

In other words, India’s T20 World Cup 2026-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav is not only to be removed from the captaincy duties, but also might lose his place in India’s setup.

BCCI To Reward Rajat Patidar After IPL Double

Recently, Rajat Patidar became the second IPL captain, only after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, to win two more IPL titles. The BCCI took little time to reward him, and if that happens for real, there is no gift more meaningful than it for Patidar, who is now 33 years old.

Not only that, Patidar was equally impressive with the bat in hand for RCB in IPL 2026. Across 15 innings, Patidar made 501 runs in 15 innings with an extraordinary strike rate of 192.69. More importantly, his batting position was No. 4, identical to Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, had a forgetful IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians. He only mustered 270 runs in 13 matches, striking at 147.54 while managing an average of 20.77.

How Has Rajat Patidar Fared In T20s?

Coming in as an injury replacement for Luvnith Sisodia, Patidar’s IPL journey is nothing but a fairytale. In IPL, he has made 1612 runs thus far, striking at 164.49.

Overall in T20s, Patidar has aggregated 3389 runs in 113 matches. There, his strike rate reads 160.08, and he has 31 half-centuries and one century under his belt.

Suryakumar Yadav's Form Turned Bad To Worse

Before IPL 2026, Suryakumar had lost his touch in the shortest format of the game. In T20 World Cup 2026, he could only score 242 runs in nine matches, that too at a strike rate of only 136.72.

Hence, SKY, who is also 35 years old now, does not seem to be in India’s mix of things, as the IPL 2026 had plenty of free-flowing hitters of the game, and the BCCI is looking for alternatives.

It is expected that there will be a lot of changes when the BCCI announces India’s T20I squad for Ireland tour. There will be two T20I matches, on June 26 and June 28, and there is a good chance that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old who became global sensation after IPL 2026, would get his first senior India call-up.
