Lahore Qalandars have had a torrid run in the PSL 2026 so far. Led by Shaheen Afridi, the Qalandars are reeling at seventh in the PSL points table, having lost three of their first five matches in the tournament.

The Qalandars were clinical across all three departments in the PSL last year. They defeated Quetta Gladiators in the all-important final to bag the coveted trophy.

However, the PSL 2026 hasn't been quite memorable for the Shaheen Afridi-led side. Although they kickstarted their campaign with a win over Hyderabad Kingsmen, the Qalandars sustained a heartbreaking defeat against Karachi Kings.

Although they bounced back and thumped Multan Sultans by 20 runs in their subsequent encounter, the defeats against Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi derailed Lahore Qalandars' PSL campaign.

Amid their topsy-turvy run in the PSL 2026, the Qalandars have confirmed their participation in a T20 league other than the Pakistan T20 tournament.

Lahore Qalandars to play Global Super League

In a significant development, defending PSL champions Lahore Qalandars have confirmed their participation in the upcoming Global Super League competition.

As reported by Pakistan's leading media agency Daily Ausaf, the Lahore Qalandars' spokesperson has revealed that the defending PSL champions will be one of the high-profile teams in the tournament.

GSL chairman welcomes Lahore Qalandars

Legendary cricketer Clive Lloyd is the chairman of the Global Super League. Lloyd, who led the West Indies to consecutive World Cup titles in 1975 and 1979, said that the league would happily host Lahore Qalandars, one of the most successful franchises in T20 cricket.

He also highlighted how the participation of the Qalandars would be a massive boost for the quality and reputation of the tournament.

“We welcome Lahore Qalandars back to the Global Super League. Lahore Qalandars is one of the most successful franchises in international T20 cricket. The team’s inclusion will significantly enhance the quality and prestige of the tournament," Clive Lloyd was quoted as saying by The Daily Ausaf.

Global Super League 2026: All you need to know

The Global Super League will be played at the Province Stadium in Guyana. The tournament is scheduled to be conducted from July 23 to August 1 later this year.

It is a T20 tournament like the Champions league T20, where marquee cricket teams from different franchise leagues participate.

There were five teams- Central Districts (Super Smash, New Zealand), Dubai Capitals (ILT20), Guyana Amazon Warriors (Caribbean Premier League), Hobart Hurricanes (Big Bash League) and Rangpur Riders (Bangladesh Premier League)- in the previous edition of the Global Super League.

Guyana Amazon Warriors defeated Rangpur Riders in a high-voltage final to win the GSL 2025.

Thus, the upcoming edition of the tournament will witness the return of a PSL franchise to the Global Super League.

It's worth mentioning that the Qalandars also participated in the inaugural GSL season in 2024. They finished fourth on the points table of the tournament, which was eventually won by the Rangpur Riders.
