In the latest development, Pragyan Ojha has been appointed as the BCCI Chief Selector, and he will chair the committee, which also comprises Ramesh Powar, who has replaced Ajit Agarkar.

Here is the list of all members picked for the BCCI Selection Committee: Pragyan Ojha (Chairperson), Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra, Ramesh Powar.

Ojha becomes chief selector based on seniority

Interestingly, the BCCI press release stated that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Mr. Ashok Malhotra and Mr. Jatin Paranjape, conducted the interview process for the chief selector, and they unanimously recommended the name of Powar for the chief selector role.

However, as per the BCCI rules, the player with more Test matches gets the nod for the chief selector’s role, and in this scenario, Ojha has played 24 Tests, while Powar has featured in just 2 Test matches.

Based on seniority (most Tests), Mr Pragyan Ojha will chair the Committee,” the BCCI press release said.

A left-arm spinner, Pragyan Ojha played 24 Test matches for India, and he scalped 113 wickets. He last represented India in 2013, but continued to play in India’s domestic matches.

After Ajit Agarkar left the post of Chairman of Selectors, Ojha was appointed as the interim selector, and he picked the squad for India’s upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Powar, on the other hand, represented India in 2 Tests and 31 ODIs, and he also worked closely with the Indian Women’s team. During his time with the Indian team, he guided the team to a runners-up finish at the Commonwealth Games and also helped them achieve an Asia Cup title.

BCCI thanks Agarkar as former selector delivers three ICC trophies

In their press release, the BCCI thanked former chief selector Ajit Agarkar, under whom the Men in Blue won three ICC titles.

"The BCCI places on record its appreciation for Mr Ajit Agarkar for his commitment, conviction and contribution during his tenure as Chairman of the Men’s Selection Committee. Since his appointment in July 2023, Agarkar led the committee through a significant period for Indian cricket, with India winning three ICC trophies, two Asia Cup titles and back-to-back Asian Games gold medals."

Agarkar joined BCCI in July 2023, and since then, the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy in 2025, and the T20 World Cup once again in 2026.
