Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana is still a long way from recovery, as per reports. The speedster has not played a single competitive match for his country since the conclusion of their all-format tour of Zimbabwe back in July this year.

Since then, Rana has missed the Test series in Australia, the entire 2026 Men’s T20 Asian Games in Japan, the only Test against Afghanistan and he was also not included in Bangladesh squad for the ongoing ODI tri-series in the UAE. The 24-year-old now faces an uphill task of attaining full recovery before Bangladesh’s upcoming all-format tour of South Africa.

Nahid Rana likely to miss Tests in South Africa, says BCB

Nahid Rana is currently undergoing a medical assessment in Australia for his injury. Just a couple of weeks ago, the speedster complained of lower-back pain.

As reported by the Daily Star, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) believe that the fast bowler needs more time to recover before he can resume cricketing activities. Doctors in Australia have already drawn up a recovery plan for the 24-year-old, and the initial phase of the plan will take around 10 days.

Following the phase, the cricketer will be expected to return to Bangladesh and continue his rehabilitation.

Talking about his estimated time to return to competitive cricket, BCB chief physician Dr Debashish Chowdhury said “We estimate that it will take him one-and-a-half to two months to recover, although it might take a little less time or a bit longer. At least six to eight weeks have been discussed.”

It is worth noting that Nahid Rana was suffering from a shin stress fracture, which forced to miss the two Tests in Australia, the 2026 Asian Games in Japan and the entire tour of UAE. He has also complained of pain in his hip region over the last few weeks.

With BCB sources claiming that it would likely take him six to eight weeks for recovery, resuming bowling straightaway will not make him match-fit, thus putting his participation in Bangladesh’s upcoming WTC Test series in South Africa under serious doubt.

Why Nahid Rana is important for Bangladesh?

The Bangladesh cricket team is currently ranked fourth on the ICC WTC 2025-27 points table. As of now, they are still eligible to make it to the WTC final next year, at least statistically.

Nahid Rana himself played a huge role in Bangladesh’s historic 2-0 series triumph over Pakistan at home back in May this year, picking up 11 wickets in just four innings at an exceptional bowling average of 25.

Since every Test going forward is going to significant weight in light of the WTC 2025-27 cycle, it is imperative for Bangladesh that Rana misses as little cricket as possible and returns to the side at the earliest possible opportunity.
