Tamim Iqbal Brings Major Change [Source: AFP]
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recently made a big change as they honoured their former captains in a heartfelt gesture. This whole event was organised under the leadership of the new president, Tamim Iqbal.
BCB recently underwent a leadership change after Bangladesh were replaced at the T20 World Cup 2026 for refusing to travel to India over safety concerns.
Aminul Bulbul resigned, and later, former cricketer Tamim was chosen as his successor.
Tamim Iqbal honours former Bangladesh captains
Meanwhile, BCB introduced a special “Captains’ Card” and gave it to 33 players (27 men, 6 women) who have captained Bangladesh since 1977. The idea was led by Tamim Iqbal, who is currently heading the board’s ad hoc committee.
This card comes with some perks. The cardholders will get free entry to matches, VVIP parking at stadiums, health insurance, 24/7 access to BCB medical support and no need to request passes anymore.
Notably, this move comes after many former Bangladesh captains didn’t feel properly respected or recognised. Some even worried about being stopped at stadium entrances, which shouldn’t happen to national leaders.
Tamim Iqbal himself admitted this, saying these players built Bangladesh cricket without the money, fame, or facilities that exist today.

Tamim Iqbal raises wages of Bangladesh cricketers
Before this, BCB president Tamim Iqbal also tweaked the pay structure of Bangladesh cricketers.
Shocked by the previously low earnings, reportedly as little as BDT 1,000 per match in some formats, the BCB has introduced a revised pay scale for women cricketers.
Under the new structure, women players will get BDT 10,000 in fees for T20s, BDT 15,000 for 50 overs and BDT 20,000 for First Class games.
Additionally, the monthly salaries for the top 36 women cricketers have been raised from BDT 30,000 to BDT 40,000.
The salary revision isn’t limited to women’s cricket. Men’s domestic players have also received their due. Category A players will now earn BDT 65,000 per month, while Category B and C players will receive BDT 50,000 and BDT 40,000, respectively.
First-class match fees have also been increased from BDT 70,000 to BDT 100,000.
