Bangladesh thumped Australia to secure a historic ODI series win. New Zealand opener Devon Conway has left squad between Tests in England. In other news, the dates of the 2027 ICC World Cup have been reportedly unveiled. 

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, June 11.

World Cup 2027 dates out

The 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will reportedly be played between October 4 and November 21 next year, as learned by ESPNCricinfo. The tournament will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The report also indicates that the eight South African venues will likely host 41 of the 54 matches of the competition, with the rest to be distributed between the remaining two countries.

BCCI name India U19 squad for Sri Lanka tour

The BCCI has announced the entire India U19 squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan was named captain for both formats of the tour, and the One-Day squad also includes Anvay Dravid, son of former Indian captain and all-time great Rahul Dravid. 

Lakshya Raichandani has been picked as vice-captain of the travelling India U19 team, and the squad features not a single member from India’s U19 World Cup 2026 winning group from earlier this year. 

ICC unveil Player of the Month nominees

The ICC has unveiled the nominees for ICC Player of the Month awards for the month of May 2026 under both, men and women categories. Senior Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim, ace spinner Taijul Islam and dynamic Nepal all-rounder Dipendra Singh Airee are in contention to win the men’s award.

England fast bowler Lauren Bell, New Zealand batter Maddy Green and Pakistan’s Gull Feroza were nominated by the ICC among women cricketers. 

Devon Conway flies back home before second Test vs England

New Zealand opener Devon Conway has flown back home ahead of the second Test of the series against England. The wicketkeeper-batter left the national squad in England to be with his family for the birth of his second child

Conway will be expected to return to England and re-join the national squad to play the second Test at The Oval between June 17 and June 21 next week.

Mustafizur Rahman thumps Australia as Bangladesh wins series

Bangladesh blanked Australia by five wickets in just 35 overs in the second ODI in Mirpur to seal their three-match home series with a game to spare. Bowling first, three-wicket hauls from Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed and a tight spell from Tanvir Islam restricted Australia to just 187-8 in 42 overs.

In response, cunning 40s from opener Soumya Sarkar, number three Najmul Hossain Shanto and unbeaten Towhid Hridoy steered Bangladesh to a comfortable win.
