New Zealand cricket have dealt a heavy blow ahead of the 2nd Test against England. The Kiwis are fresh off an embarrassing defeat against the Three Lions and have suffered a blow in the form of Devon Conway.

Ahead of the 2nd Test, New Zealand opener Devon Conway has left the Kiwi camp and returned home, as reported by Cricbuzz.

Devon Conway Leaves Kiwi Camp To Be With His Wife

Notably, Devon Conway has left the New Zealand camp to be with his wife back home, who is expecting a child. Hence, Conway has returned home for the birth of his second child. However, the report added that the New Zealand opener will be back in time for the 2nd Test.

New Zealand and England will lock horns for the 2nd of the three-match Test series on June 17 at the Oval in London. Hence, Conway has six days to rejoin the New Zealand camp. However, it is worth noting that there is still a possibility that the southpaw might miss the 2nd Test.

Devon Conway Also Skipped England Test For Birth Of 1st Child

It is not the first time that Devon Conway will miss a Test match for New Zealand. On the birth of his 1st child, New Zealand were playing England, and the 34-year-old was ruled out of the 3rd Test, as he left the camp to be with his wife in December 2024.

The New Zealand opener has set an example by prioritising his family at such occassions and New Zealand Cricket Board too have been supportive of such decisions.

Devon Conway Struggling For Form

Devon Conway also has a lot of pressure mounting on his head. The southpaw is struggling for runs and facing a constant threat of getting dropped from the team. In the recently concluded 1st Test, Conway amassed just 42 runs in 2 innings.

The only positive was that all the batters struggled on a challenging Lord’s pitch, and the 34-year-old amassed 41 (91) in the 2nd innings. However, prior to that, he was among the runs back in 2025 against West Indies.

Against the Windies, Conway amassed 452 runs in 6 innings, averaging 90. During that series, the left-handed batter scored a century and also a double-century. Hence, Conway would hope for some lady luck here and be back among the runs.

Who Can Replace Devon Conway If He Misses 2nd Test?

As mentioned above, there is still a possibility that Devon Conway might miss the 2nd Test against England. In that scenario, New Zealand have a couple of option to sort new opening pair for skipper Tom Latham.

Notably, Rachin Ravindra can also be pushed to open the innings and Kiwis can bring a middle-order batter for the 2nd Test before Conway returns.
