Bangladesh on Thursday revealed its ODI squad for the upcoming home series against Pakistan. The selectors have picked a strong 15-member squad, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz set to lead the team against Pakistan. Apart from Mehidy, the management have also gone in with other strong players as the team aims to inflict a series defeat to the visitors.

Bangladesh’s ODI fortunes have not been great as of late, and the team will look to regroup and win the series after all the controversies they were surrounded by before the T20 World Cup 2026.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Shakib Al Hasan was once again ignored as the selectors have shown no interest in picking him in the team.

Bangladesh ODI squad for Pakistan series

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Kumer Das, Afif Hossain, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana.

Hasan Miraz will lead the squad, and the team boasts players like Soumya Sarkar, and Tanzid Hasan as the team has a solid batting lineup for home conditions. There is also Litton Das in the squad, and he will provide solidity in the top 3 for Bangladesh.

Why no Shakib Al Hasan in Bangladesh squad

Shakib Al Hasan’s omission came as a huge surprise, especially after reports and statements from BCB directors indicated that Shakib would play in the series, but turns out, his name is not in the squad.

As reported by BdCrictime, the veteran player is still involved in unresolved legal disputes, which is why he has been left out of the squad.

As of late, Shakib’s career has gone downhill following the political turmoil in the nation. The much-talked-about students' protest led to Sheikh Hasina's indefinite exile, as several prominent personalities, including Shakib, fled the country for security reasons.

Interestingly, the former Bangladesh captain has seen legal charges filed against him, and as a result, he hasn’t returned to his home country.

Other key players sidelined in the Bangladesh squad

Apart from Shakib, several other big names have also been omitted from the ODI squad vs Pakistan. Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Jaker Ali Anik and Shamim Hossain are among the notable omissions. Moreover, Hasan Mahmud is currently injured, and will not be available for the series.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib is also nursing a back injury, and the pacer will not be available for the all-important ODI matches.

While some big names are missing from the squad, the team still possesses a great mixture of youth and experience across departments. While the batting looks strong on paper, the bowling, too, is brilliant with the likes of Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman there to weave their magic.
