The Bangladesh Premier League have been concluded over two months now, yet as per recent reports, Dhaka Capitals, one of the premier franchises of the tournament, is yet to pay their dues. While BPL 2025-26 was a successful season, the financial crisis is still lingering to defame the tournament.

The Bangladesh Premier League 2025-26 saw Rajshahi Warriors lift the trophy, with Dhaka Capitals eliminated before the playoffs as they finished second last on the points table. This misery with performance compounded with the current revelation of their monetary crisis, which read a 3 crore due on their half.

Dhaka Capitals In Deep Waters After 3 crore fraud

As per a report from BDcrictime, the franchise has still not cleared the payments of their players. Now, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and secretary of the BPL Governing Council, has brought the issue into light.

As per BPL rules, all due payments of players and management should be cleared within 45 days of the tournament’s conclusion, and after several media reports and complaints, it has come to light that Dhaka Capitals only cleared half payments for their players.

BCB Issues Official Statement On Unpaid Dues

Owned by Champions Sports Ltd and partnered with Remark-Herlan Group, the franchise has reportedly cleared only 25% of the payments. Mithu addressed the issue on a public forum at a press conference, calling for a mutual meeting between the owners and players to resolve the issue.

“The payment structure is simple. 25 percent before the tournament, 50 percent during it, and the remaining 25 percent within 45 days. All teams have paid, except the Capitals. Players are saying one thing, the franchise another. I have asked them to sit together so we can solve the issue. We will listen to the players,” Mithu said.

Dhaka Capitals also ghosted the Bangladesh Cricket Board after the tournament ended. On February 27, all of the franchises were given 15 days to clear payments. While every other team cleared their payment, the Capitals didn’t even respond to the letter given by the board.

BCB Gives Final Verdict To Capitals

Nevertheless, the board also issued a threat to the Capitals. If the liabilities are not paid by this week, strict action is to be taken by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

Notably, the BCB holds a bank guarantee of 5 crore taka and a 5 crore taka cheque from the franchise itself, and if not paid on time, the governing council might use that amount to clear out the dues.

Reportedly, the board’s calculations found that the franchise’s dues round off to 4 crore taka. While a small amount of 50-60 lakh taka was made recently, the major chunk of the dues is yet to be cleared.

Capitals On A Thin Line

While the Bangladesh cricket body have been lenient on the Mohammad Mithun-led team as of now with the bank guarantee security, earlier franchises like the Chittagong Kings were terminated because they owed 46 crore taka in unpaid dues back in 2012.

As of now, no response from the franchise owners of Dhaka Capitals has been recorded regarding the multiple letters BCB has sent. However, with players and staff still struggling with a massive salary block, BCB is certain to take action soon.
