The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the schedule of a new home series. As per the itinerary and the announcement, the Bangladesh men’s team will now host New Zealand in a series of three ODIs and three T20I matches.

The series has been finally greenlit after New Zealand Cricket (NZC) had launched a security probe in Bangladesh earlier this year. A few weeks ago, a three-member security assessment team from New Zealand arrived in Dhaka to review the security arrangements for the tour.

Bangladesh set to host New Zealand after nearly 2.5 years

The upcoming series will also mark New Zealand’s first senior men’s trip to Bangladesh after a gap of nearly 2.5 years. Bangladesh last hosted New Zealand way back in late 2023 for a three-match ODI series and a two-match Test rubber.

The two Tests, also forming a part of the 2023-25 WTC cycle, ended up getting levelled 1-1 after the visitors pulled off a thrilling four-wicket win in the Dhaka decider.

The ‘Black Caps’ also won the ODIs by a 2-0 margin, doing so under the leadership of senior fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. The series opener was washed out due to rains.

Focus on New Zealand players amid IPL 2026 overlap

The tour will also coincide with the IPL 2026 season in India. Several New Zealand cricketers are either already in India, or will be travelling to the country to join their respective franchises for the tournament.

High-flying Glenn Phillips was retained by the Gujarat Titans, national captain Mitchell Santner will play for Mumbai Indians alongside legendary paceman Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson is slated to join the Punjab Kings.

Moreover, on the day of the IPL 2026 auction, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Seifert and Finn Allen were acquired by the KKR franchise, Kyle Jamieson joined the Delhi Capitals, Adam Milne joined the Rajasthan Royals, and Zak Foulkes and Matt Henry were recruited by CSK. Even fast bowler Jacob Duffy was roped in by defending champions RCB at the bidding event.

However, it remains to be seen how New Zealand players will manage their availability amid the overlapping commitments. There is a high probability that the NZC will likely use the tour to hand out opportunities to younger players and fringe talent.

Several senior members of the New Zealand team were also partially, or fully rested from New Zealand’s recently-concluded tour of South Africa.
