T20 World Cup is upon us, with the competition set to begin on February 7; however, Bangladesh’s participation still remains uncertain after the geopolitical tensions between them and their neighbours, India, intensified over the Mustafizur Rahman saga earlier in December.

With the tournament just weeks away, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is not willing to send their players to India, as the discussions continue between them and the International Cricket Council.

Amidst the conversations, the national captain, Litton Das, has made a shocking revelation over BCB’s handling of the matter, speaking up on players being kept in the dark regarding their participation.

Litton Das fires shots at BCB uncertainty over T20 World Cup

Speaking to the media at the end of the Bangladesh Premier League Eliminator, where his team, Rangpur Riders, was knocked out at the hands of Sylhet Titans, Litton Das spoke about the geopolitical tensions being taken on the ground.

While he initially refrained from making any comments on the matter, he eventually spilt the truth, telling everyone that none of the players had been kept in the loop by the board.

"No comments. Are you sure we're going to the World Cup? You don't know, I don't know, we're on the same page. The World Cup is still a long way away. We're not even sure yet whether we'll go to the World Cup at all," said Litton Das.

"Everyone is playing the BPL, that is true, but if we had known who our group opponents were or which country we were going to, that would have helped. Until now, no player knows which country we are going to or whom we will play against. Like me, the whole of Bangladesh is now in uncertainty," Litton Das added

Litton Das further revealed that the players have not been asked by the association whether or not they feel safe travelling to India for the competition, while also accepting that things are not ideal and the players and staff would’ve liked to know about the venues and teams they are supposed to face to focus on preparations.

Litton Das remains confident of preparations

As Rangpur Riders crash out of the tournament at the hands of Sylhet, the player thinks it is a good time to rest ahead of the World Cup, and the rest of the squad members, who go on to play the final, shall also have enough time on their hands to get ready for the big event.

He emphasised the need for a break to recover from continuous T20 cricket that the players have played across internationals and BPL stage and that the 14-day gap between BPL final and the first T20 World Cup game would allow them to reset.

Bangladesh’s eye T20 World Cup knockouts

As things stand, Bangladesh are a part of Group C, where they are scheduled to face West Indies in the opening match on February 7 at the Eden Gardens, followed by Italy on 9th and England on the 14th at the same venue before they head to the West to face Nepal on 17th.

Considering the strengths of all the squads, they look like a formidable unit, which can finish in the top-2, much like the 2024 event and head into the next round of the tournament again.
