Babar Azam will likely make his return to Pakistan XI in the second Test. Joe Root levelled Sachin Tendulkar for a huge world record. In other news, Tanzid Hasan has suffered a huge injury scare for Bangladesh.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, August 20.

Sri Lanka name Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige as replacements for Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has added two uncapped stars in the form of Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige into the Sri Lanka squad for the upcoming second Test of the series against India in Colombo.

The two cricketers were included in the national line-up, considering senior pros like Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal have been ruled out of action owing to their respective injuries.

Joe Root levels huge Sachin Tendulkar world record

England captain Joe Root compiled 66 runs off 112 balls after resuming his innings on Day 2 at 37* against Pakistan at Headingley in Leeds. The innings marked Root’s 68th half-century in Test cricket.

In doing so, the England skipper has now levelled Sachin Tendulkar’s all-time world record of notching up the highest number of fifties in the format. Root is also currently inching closer towards Tendulkar’s overall Test run tally.

Babar Azam likely to return, Salman Agha injured

Pakistan captain Babar Azam will likely make his return to the playing XI for the upcoming second Test of the three-match series in England. Earlier, the legendary batter was excluded from the Pakistan line-up for the series-opener at Leeds owing to his hand injury.

With Babar looking good during training sessions, Pakistan’s interim captain Salman Agha has now suffered an injury on his hand following his fielding attempt during the second session of Day 2.

Tanzid Hasan gives massive injury scare to Bangladesh

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan missed his team’s batting training session in Mackay just a couple of days prior to their series-deciding second Test against hosts Australia. Fresh from his match-winning century against Australia last week in Darwin, the cricketer is now suffering stiffness in his neck.

As of now, it remains to be seen if Tanzid will attain full recovery in time for Bangladesh’s second Test. If he is ruled out, the Bangladesh team management might recall Soumya Sarkar back into their XI.

Sam Curran out of entire England summer

England all-rounder Sam Curran has been ruled out of the entire English summer. The cricketer will now have to undergo a surgery later this weekend for his groin injury.

Curran, who has been struggling with various niggles this year, was highly considered to be an ideal replacement for fellow fast-bowling all-rounder and recently-retired Ben Stokes.
