Auqib Nabi with India cap (Source: @BCCI/X)
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday added Auqib Nabi to India’s squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand. Nabi, who was originally picked for India’s last two ODIs against the Kiwis, will now be available for selection for all five matches.
Nabi has been supremely impressive in New Zealand of late. In the first unofficial Test between India A and New Zealand A, he took six wickets in two innings, with three wickets in each.
Auqib Nabi Gets Another Chance In ODIs After Forgetful Debut
Nabi made his international debut during India’s recent ODI series against the West Indies at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. However, he could have had a worse start in his international debut after much anticipation.
There, he leaked 84 runs in 8.5 overs, that too without picking up any wickets.
As India dropped him from the playing XI for the third ODI against the West Indies, it all seemed like he might not get another opportunity to turn things around.
However, the BCCI thought otherwise, and after a stunning audition in New Zealand, he got the reward he desperately wanted.
India To Have 2 Captains During New Zealand ODIs
India’s five-match ODI series against New Zealand will get underway on Wednesday (November 4). For the first three ODIs, Shubman Gill, India’s full-time captain for 50-over cricket and Tests, will continue to lead the side.
After that, Shreyas Iyer, India’s T20I captain and ODI vice-captain, will take charge, as Gill, along with a few others, will prepare for India vs New Zealand Tests.
For those unaware, India vs New Zealand ODIs will finish on November 15, while the Tests will begin on November 19.
