Yashasvi Jaiswal’s form in red-ball cricket has been a topic of conversation for a while now. Things went from bad to worse on Saturday (October 31), when India A and New Zealand A faced each other at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.
Often criticised for playing cut shots every now and then, Jaiswal had the scores of five and 17 in the first IND-A vs NZ-A unofficial Test. His numbers went down on Saturday, as New Zealand’s Fraser Sheat trapped him leg-before.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Gets Late On The Ball, Pays The Price
Jaiswal, known for being one of the rare aggressors in red-ball cricket, has the tendency to get late on the ball whenever his defence comes into play. It happened again when India A came to bat first in Christchurch.
There, Sheat bowled a good-length delivery at the off stump, which swung back in. Jaiswal tried a forward defence, but the ball hit his pad before going elsewhere.
The on-field umpire took little time to raise his index finger after Sheat’s appeal, and thus, Yashasvi Jaiswal had to return to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.

Jaiswal did little for India in Sri Lanka during their two-match Test series in August. He had the scores of 62, a duck, 32 and 45, which are way below his lofty standards.
Jaiswal Needs To Shut The Critic In India A's 2nd Innings
As India A bats first, Jaiswal will get another chance to silence the critics. Earlier, KL Rahul had the same fate in the 1st unofficial Test between India A and New Zealand A.
Therefore, the form of two of India’s first-choice openers has been a concern. Their two-match Test series will get underway on November 19, with Christchurch, the venue in which Jaiswal fell for a duck on Saturday, scheduled to host the second and final Test of the series.
Important to mention that India must put on a spirited show in order to stay in the race for the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final. They are yet to win red-ball cricket’s most prestigious trophy.
