Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer gave a strong reality check to Arshdeep Singh during a challenging IPL season, as the young pacer opened up about an on-field moment during IPL 2026 season.
Notably, Arshdeep Singh experienced a highly dramatic IPL season filled with ups and downs. Throughout the tournament, his name stayed in the spotlight, not only for his performances, however also for repeated off-field discussions.
Meanwhile, the team went through a difficult phase as form dropped in the second half of the season.
Arshdeep Singh Struggled In IPL 2026
During the season, Arshdeep’s bowling figures showed inconsistency across matches. He played 14 games and managed 14 wickets, while his economy rate crossed 10 runs per over.
Notably, he conceded 541 runs in total, including one tough match where 52 runs came in just 3 overs. In another game against Rajasthan Royals, his spell ended at 1/68, which added further pressure on his overall performance.
Consequently, Punjab Kings missed the playoff spot by a narrow margin, finishing just one point behind qualification. Even though he ended as the top wicket-taker for his consistency remained a major concern throughout the season.

Off-field Social Media Discussions
Alongside match performances, Arshdeep also faced attention on social media platforms. Earlier in the season, an incident involving a remark directed at Tilak Varma before a match against Mumbai Indians went viral online and led to strong reactions.
Subsequently, another moment gained traction when he responded to a supporter on Snapchat after a defeat. In addition, he posted a teasing story involving teammate Priyansh Arya, which also circulated widely.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh removed a large number of Instagram posts, including a popular reel featuring Virat Kohli, leaving only a limited number of posts visible on his profile.
Shreyas Iyer Urged Arshdeep Singh To Stay Focused
In a conversation on a podcast hosted with Harleen Deol under the Punjab Kings setup, Arshdeep shared an important moment involving Shreyas Iyer.
The Indian pacer revealed that during a match situation, Shreyas Iyer called him from the boundary and asked him to focus on bowling duties.
Arshdeep explained that his usual bowling phases are at the start and end of innings, however he was introduced in the 11th over on that occasion.
Arshdeep Singh said, " While I was fielding on the boundary and entertaining the crowd, Shreyas Iyer suddenly called out, ‘Arsh, what are you doing there?’ and asked me to come bowl. I usually bowl the 1st, 2nd, 17th and 20th overs, but he brought me on in the 11th over.
I was shocked! Later, he told me to stay focused on what was happening in the game. If the over goes well, it's fine, but if it doesn't, everyone starts saying, ‘Your focus wasn't there.’"
Notably, both Arshdeep Singh and Shreyas Iyer have been selected in the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Afghanistan.
The series is scheduled across three venues, starting in Dharamsala on 13 June, followed by Lucknow on 17 June, and concluding in Chennai on 20 June.
