India won the T20 World Cup in March 2026, and since then, their performances across formats have dipped, especially in white-ball cricket. The Men in Blue suffered heavy defeats against Ireland and England, and if that was not enough, their performance against Sri Lanka was far from convincing.
As a result, the BCCI has called for an emergency review meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and head of CoE VVS Laxman, set to join the meeting at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Thursday.
Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer asked to attend the BCCI review meeting
According to reports by TOI journalist Gaurav Gupta, not only the head coach and the chief selector but also the Indian T20I and ODI captains, Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill, have been asked to attend the review meeting.
Gill leads the ODI team, and under his guidance, the team lost the ODI series against England, despite taking a 1-0 lead. The ODI squad was filled with experienced players, and yet India failed to capture the ODIs against a struggling English side.
On the other hand, Iyer replaced Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain, and he failed on his first two assignments as India crumbled and lost consecutive series against Ireland and England.
BCCI to review India's performance in England, Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka
As the defending T20 World Cup champions, India was expected to deliver against Ireland and England. However, disaster struck as the Men in Blue lost the series against Ireland, 0-2. The Poor run continued in England as India tried several players, but nothing worked, as England outclassed them.

India lost without putting up much of a fight, and hence, the BCCI has called for a “review meeting” to discuss India’s failures on away tours.
Meanwhile, the review meeting won’t be limited to the UK tour, but discussions will also take place regarding the Zimbabwe and the recently concluded Sri Lanka series.
India defeated Zimbabwe, rather convincingly, but the team missed out on an opportunity to whitewash the Sri Lankan side, which affected their WTC final chances.
BCCI meeting to focus on player injury management
According to TOI, the BCCI review meeting is also expected to focus on the player injury management issue ahead of the New Zealand tour.
The Indian side will travel to New Zealand in late October for a multi-format series, and ahead of the away tour, the BCCI wants to review the growing number of injuries in the Indian camp in recent months. Recently, even captain Shubman Gill was left frustrated with India’s growing injury list.
The team’s star bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been on the sidelines since the England ODI series. He sustained a knee injury and was ruled out of the Sri Lanka Test tour. Moreover, there has not been a clear timeline for Hardik Pandya’s comeback.
The all-rounder suffered a fresh injury setback before the Afghanistan series and was ruled out. Moreover, Harshit Rana’s weight management has been an issue, as the pacer gained considerable weight before his comeback in the Indian team.
All the players named are key to India’s chances on the away tour of New Zealand, and the BCCI wants to know the root cause of players suffering recurring injuries.
