The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) has now completed ten editions, producing six different champions and several memorable finals.

On August 28, 2026, VIDA Kovai Kings became the TNPL 2026 winner after defeating Siechem Madurai Panthers by 84 runs in the 2026 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

However, Chepauk Super Gillies remain the most successful side with four titles.

Moreover, the league has witnessed some unusual title outcomes over the years. The 2020 edition was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic, while the 2022 final was washed out, resulting in Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings being declared joint champions.

In this article, take a look at the TNPL winners over the years, from 2016 to 2026.

1) TNPL 2016 Winner- Tuti Patriots

Tuti Patriots became the inaugural TNPL champions in 2016 after defeating Chepauk Super Gillies by 122 runs in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Batting first, Tuti Patriots posted a massive 215/4, with Abhinav Mukund leading the charge with an unbeaten 82. Kaushik Gandhi also contributed with 59, while captain Dinesh Karthik provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 55 off 26 balls.

The chase turned into a one-sided affair almost immediately. Chepauk Super Gillies lost four wickets in the first over, with Ganesh Moorthi claiming a hat-trick as the Patriots took complete control of the contest.

Chepauk were eventually bowled out for just 93, handing Tuti Patriots the first trophy in TNPL history.

2) TNPL 2017 Winner- Chepauk Super Gillies

Chepauk Super Gillies bounced back from their defeat in the inaugural final by winning the 2017 edition. They defeated Tuti Patriots by six wickets in the final to claim their maiden TNPL title.

Tuti Patriots were restricted to 143/8 after being sent in to bat, giving Chepauk a manageable target to chase. The Gillies’ batting unit then produced a composed performance to reach the target with six wickets in hand.

Washington Sundar was named Player of the Tournament after an impressive campaign, while Rajagopalan Sathish led Chepauk during their title-winning season.

3) TNPL 2018 Winner- Siechem Madurai Panthers

The 2018 season saw Siechem Madurai Panthers emerge as champions after defeating Dindigul Dragons by seven wickets in the final.

Having reached the title clash against a strong Dindigul side, Madurai produced a controlled performance to chase down their target without allowing the game to slip away.

Arun Karthik was named Player of the Tournament after playing a major role in Madurai’s successful campaign. The victory also gave the Panthers their first TNPL trophy.

4) TNPL 2019 Winner- Chepauk Super Gillies

Chepauk Super Gillies returned to the top in 2019, defeating Dindigul Dragons by 12 runs in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The Gillies held their nerve in a closely fought contest, with Dindigul unable to chase down the target despite remaining in the contest for much of the innings.

The 2019 title marked Chepauk’s second championship in three seasons and further established them as one of the most consistent teams in the competition. G Periyaswamy was named Player of the Tournament.

5) TNPL 2020- Tournament Not Held

The tournament did not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

6) TNPL 2021 Winner- Chepauk Super Gillies

Chepauk Super Gillies continued their impressive run in 2021 by defeating Ruby Trichy Warriors by eight runs in the final.

The Gillies managed to defend their total in a tense finish, keeping Trichy Warriors under pressure during the closing stages of the chase.

The victory gave Chepauk their third TNPL title, with Kaushik Gandhi leading the side. Narayan Jagadeesan was named Player of the Tournament after an outstanding season with the bat.

7) TNPL 2022 Winner- Chepauk Super Gillies & Lyca Kovai Kings

The 2022 TNPL final produced a rare outcome as Chepauk Super Gillies and Lyca Kovai Kings were declared joint champions after the title clash was abandoned due to persistent rain.

The final was scheduled to be played at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore, but the weather prevented the teams from completing the match.

With no result possible, both sides shared the trophy. It remains the only shared title in TNPL history and gave Chepauk their fourth championship, while also putting Lyca Kovai Kings on the winners’ list for the first time.

8) TNPL 2023 Winner- Lyca Kovai Kings

Lyca Kovai Kings claimed their first outright TNPL title in 2023 after defeating Nellai Royal Kings by 104 runs in the final at the Indian Cement Company Ground in Tirunelveli.

Kovai Kings dominated the contest after putting up a formidable total and then producing an equally impressive bowling performance to dismiss Nellai Royal Kings.

The 104-run victory was one of the biggest winning margins in a TNPL final at the time and confirmed Kovai’s emergence as one of the competition’s strongest teams.

9) TNPL 2024 Winner- Dindigul Dragons

Dindigul Dragons finally got their hands on the TNPL trophy in 2024 after defeating Lyca Kovai Kings by six wickets in the final.

Having finished as runners-up in previous editions, the Dragons produced a composed performance when it mattered most and successfully chased down the target to lift their maiden championship.

Captain Ravichandran Ashwin played an important role in the title-winning campaign and was named Player of the Match in the final after scoring a composed 52 off 46 balls. Shahrukh Khan was named Player of the Tournament.

10) TNPL 2025 Winner- IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans

IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans entered the 2025 final against defending champions Dindigul Dragons looking for their first TNPL title.

What followed was one of the most dominant finals in the tournament’s history. Tiruppur Tamizhans defeated Dindigul by a mammoth 118 runs at the NPR College Ground in Dindigul to lift their maiden trophy.

The Tamizhans posted a huge total before their bowlers dismantled the defending champions’ chase. Tushar Raheja played a starring role with the bat and finished the tournament as its leading run-scorer, while captain R Sai Kishore provided strong leadership throughout the campaign.

11) TNPL 2026 Winner- VIDA Kovai Kings

VIDA Kovai Kings became the latest TNPL champions after defeating Siechem Madurai Panthers by 84 runs in the 2026 final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Having won the toss, Kovai Kings opted to bat first but were reduced to 34/2 early in the innings. However, C Andre Siddarth walked in and completely changed the momentum of the contest.

Playing on his 20th birthday, Siddarth produced a sensational 82 off 47 balls, smashing seven fours and five sixes. He combined with Balasubramaniam Sachin, who scored 39 off 33, to put together a crucial partnership and help Kovai post 182/7 from their 20 overs.

Madurai Panthers’ chase never really got going. They lost R Ram Kumar off the first ball and quickly slipped to 11/2. NS Chaturved offered some resistance with a 40 off 28, but once he departed, the innings collapsed.

Manimaran Siddharth and captain Shahrukh Khan then finished the job with three wickets apiece as Madurai were bowled out for 98 in just 14.2 overs.

Kovai Kings’ 84-run victory gave them their third TNPL championship, counting their shared 2022 crown, and made them only the second franchise after Chepauk Super Gillies to win multiple titles.

The 2026 triumph also marked another chapter in the rise of the Kovai franchise, which had previously won the title outright in 2023 before returning to the top three years later.
