East Zone captain Ishan Kishan made a spectacular 250 on Monday during Duleep Trophy 2026 final against South Zone, taking place at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. However, he did not continue batting to take it to 300, leaving fans worried about whether he was injured.
Ishan reached to 250 with a single off Tripurana Vijay during the 130th over of East Zone’s innings. Immediately after, in the following over, he was seen struggling on the field. The physio came out straightaway, and Ishan was seen hobbling while leaving the field, receiving round of applause from Chepauk fans.
Why Did Ishan Kishan Walk Off The Field?
However, there is no worries regarding the Ishan Kishan’s injury. It was Chennai’s scorching heat which was too much for Kishan to keep going. Not to forget, he lasted 300 balls before deciding to retire hurt.

Coming to bat at No. 5, Kishan played an innings of a lifetime. After Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s blistering start, ably supported by Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shikhar Mohan carried the momentum for East Zone.

However, Sudip Kumar Gharami did not last long, leaving Kishan to rebuild the innings after promising start. And he did not disappoint when the stakes were high.
Kishan, who openly questioned BCCI’s packed schedule a few days earlier, will soon be in action during India vs Afghanistan T20Is. So, as things stand, he should be fit and available for that assignment, which will begin on September 13 and run till September 17.
Is Ishan Kishan Ready For India Test Comeback?
Kishan last played a Test match for India three years ago. In fact, that time in 2023, during India’s tour of the West Indies, he had played back-to-back Tests.
There, he had three opportunities, and was out only once, with the best score reading an unbeaten 52.
However, given the way Kishan made his T20I comeback for India not too long ago, it was obvious that the discussion will arise regarding his return to India’s Test set-up, particularly because it happened in front of BCCI’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
Still, even though Kishan is ready, the form of Devdutt Padikkal, coupled with the presence of Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant, it is difficult for the BCCI and captain Shubman Gill to make some room for Kishan, at least for now.
Kishan Keeps On Doing Wonders As Captain
Nevertheless, Kishan has been extremely successful as captain of late, whether it is for East Zone, for Jharkhand and for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Not only he led by example with the bat, but also his ability to make quick decisions on the field have left many in awe.
In the process, Kishan, without much of a limelight, has been slowly emerging as one of the most ideal candidates for India captaincy in coming days.
