Amritsar Soormas have etched their name in the history books as the side to win the inaugural season of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League. They clinched the trophy despite finishing fourth in the points table and two spots below Ludhiana Lions. The side even lost to Ludhiana in the league fixture but Amritsar brought in their best game when it mattered the most. Credit must also go to their skipper Naman Dhir for leading the side so well and also performing extremely well with the bat.
A sheer dominating performance by Amritsar Soormas in the final. They outsmarted Ludhiana Lions in all three departments of the game. After being given a target of 143 runs on a turning surface, Amritsar Soormas batted well and lost just two wickets to chase down the target with more than three overs to spare. Credit must go to Sahaj Dhawan (63* off 53 balls) for playing the role of an anchor in the chase. But his work was made easier by his side's bowlers, who never allowed Ludhiana Lions batters to score big.

Naman Dhir (Amritsar Soormas Captain): "(On winning the trophy) It feels very good, I guess. I’ve got into a very good habit—three back-to-back tournaments—so I’d like to keep that going.
(On his team's strategy today) No, actually, our plan was totally different. Once we went out there, the wicket behaved completely differently because of the rain. The ball was gripping and there was some movement, so we changed our strategy. We decided to give the spinners more overs because they were getting more help from the wicket.
(On the surface helping spinners) Hundred percent. And there was also a leg-side boundary, so that helped as well.
(On the tournament from an individual perspective) Yeah, definitely. It was a very important tournament for me, but I guess I have three very important matches coming up, so I want to continue this form there."

Initially, both our bowling and batting… especially the batting, wasn’t really going our way. But towards the end, in the last two or three matches, we built some good momentum, so it was nice to finish the tournament on a positive note.
(On the loss) Sir, yes, it felt like the players were adapting towards the end and understanding what kind of wicket it was. We felt that we could have scored even better after that.
(When you got Naman’s wicket, did you feel that the opportunity was firmly in your hands?) Sir, it felt like we had a chance, but we still needed a couple of wickets with the bowling. If we had got one or two wickets at that stage, the game could have gone in our favour.
(How have the last two weeks been for you as a team, with this entire group?) It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot. As a player, I got to learn many things, and there was a lot of learning throughout the tournament.
(Is the group a little heartbroken now?) Yes, sir, they are."
