That's it from us for this match. This is Nikhil Kulkarni, along with my colleague Abhishek Singh, signing off. Do join us on Wednesday, 24th March, for the final match of the T20 series. Take care, bye!!!
India had a chance to win this game but the fielding let them down along with some poor bowling. Two drop catches turned out costly for India in the end. One was of Lee when she was batting on 30 and she went onto make 70. The other was of Laura Wolvaardt, she was dropped on 0 and she stayed till the end took the game away from India. She remained unbeaten on 53. India will be hoping to win the last game of the series to prevent a whitewash.
Laura Wolvaardt | Player of the match: I didn't start the innings quickly as I would like and put pressure on myself but I knew with this fast outfield we had a chance if we took the game deep enough. It's not about the individual shots, but it's knowing when to play them. I think games like this will be very important for my future.
Luus: There are a lot of positives. I think our confidence levels may be one thing and playing fearless cricket, especially in T20s. I think it is so good for the future of South Africa cricket. We know these players coming in, we back them, they back themselves and get the results. It is amazing the youngsters coming up, there has been a lot of work done back home to get to where we are.
Smriti Mandhana: A bitter pill to swallow. 80% of the game was ours but we were poor in the field. The way our batters batted was amazing to watch. They helped us to get past 150+. We have to pull our socks.
We will be back with the post match presentation in few minutes. Stay tuned!
Wolvaardt held her nerve and smashed back-to-back boundaries off the last two balls of the 19th over to take the equation to 9 runs off 6 balls. South Africa needed 6 runs off the 2 balls but a no-ball from Arundhati reduced the equation to 1 run off the last ball. Wolvaardt mistimed the last ball to Smriti at square leg and scampered for a single as Smriti struggled to hold onto the ball.
Laura Wolvaardt joined Lee in the middle and she was dropped on 0 by Rajeshwari Gayakwad when she failed to hold onto the return catch. Lee continued to dominate the bowlers and reached her 12th T20 international 50. Lee was dismissed on 70 when she tried to smash a tossed-up delivery but miscued it behind the bowler who took a good catch to send her back. South Africa needed 43 off 29 balls when Lee got out. Wolvaardt on the other end continued to put pressure on India's bowlers as she kept hitting the boundaries.
What a game! South Africa has won their first-ever T20 series victory against India. Lizelle Lee started off the innings on a positive note scoring a boundary off the 2nd ball. 7 runs came off the first over. Rajeshwari Gayakwad came into bowl spin in the 2nd over and immediately dismissed Bosch off a slower delivery, which Bosch failed to pick and was bowled. Lee continued to dominate the bowlers as she had done in the ODI series. She smashed some elegant boundaries. India had their chance when Lee hit one straight to Richa at deep square leg when she was on 30 but Richa dropped an easy catch. Sune Luus was batting well with Lee but she had to walk back to the pavilion after a brilliant throw from Deepti from long on which resulted in a direct hit and Luus was short of the crease.
