That's it from a brilliant game of T20 cricket, a perfect mix of everything one needs in a T20 game. The T20 Blast is done and dusted for the season with Somerset clinching the trophy. Ninaad Dixit here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar. Thank you for joining us for the coverage and stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Somerset have become the first team to get 20 wickets on a finals day in the history of T20 tournaments in England's domestic circuit. They got the better of Surrey in the semis and now Essex to clinch the throne.
Gregory collects the trophy and his teammates are ready to pose for the cameramen. They pose with the trophy and the celebrations start. They are truly the deserving champions, having won 15 games in this year's T20 Blast, including the final.
Lewis Gregory (Somerset Captain): "Pretty damn good. I have been on the finals day a lot of times but happy to finish on the winning side. We did the hard work throughout the day and the boys were brilliant throughout the competition. Seamers have been amazing. Sodhi came out for the last three days and the finals and was sensational. We played on some good surfaces in Taunton and we bowled out opposition teams 70% of the time. That helps. Jason Kerr, head coach, he has worked hard with everyone and I'm super happy for him."
Simon Harmer (Essex Captain): "You can pick up a million pieces of the game. At the end of the day we were outplayed. They bowled exceptionally well which is a credit to lose to this team. Unfortunately there's a loser and that's us tonight. I can't fault our boys, how they played and I think there's one thing that you can't take away from Essex is how we fight till the end so it's easy to pick on little things but we obviously couldn't put together with the bat tonight. But such is life, the sun's gonna rise tomorrow morning.
We came out of the blocks really strongly and you hope that you can carry on that momentum and get fired enough to get ahead in the game but it kills it. Unfortunately couple of things didn't go our way. Lots a few wickets and they bowled extremely well so credit to them but it is what it is.
I said to the boys before we went on the field this evening nobody gave us the chance going into this tournament. And I think we have shown that we are an extremely talented group of boys and I am so proud of them and the way they have stood up this tournament and youngsters that have taken the opportunities, it's been so good to see. I think disappointing for all of them it'd be good to get the win but extremely proud of how they got their business this tournament."
Matt Henry (Player of the Match): "I was absolutely stoked. We came here playing some good cricket. I think we knew anything around 160 will be a good total but we knew we had to bowl well to defend this total. Everyone has turned up and put their hands up. This is what the exciting part is. So it's great to see the rewards. Overton has been fantastic in this Vitality T20 Blast and I love bowling with him. He has also taken some very good catches. The atmosphere is outstanding and I just loved my time tonight. A big thanks to the Somerset fans present tonight."
Player of the Match: Matt Henry
James Vince of Hampshire is the player of the tournament.
