A superb all-round performance from India as they comfortably defeat England here in Chelmsford to take a 1-0 lead in this three-match T20I series. The Women in Blue were clinical with both bat and ball and will now carry plenty of confidence heading into the second T20I in Bristol on Saturday.

For now, this is Pritam Dey signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide who, along with scorer/analyst Danish Elahi brought all the actions of this clash. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. BYE BYE👋
Smriti Mandhana (India Women Captain): "[She will be pleased after this win, right?] Losing two wickets in the first over is not an ideal start for sure. Powerplay has been our strength. But credit to Yastika, coming back after eight months, she took the game away. And Jemi doing Jemi things. I thought we could have got 10 more runs. But again, our fielding and bowling was up to the mark.

[On getting the tactics right in the field] Fielding second is always an advantage. We got inputs from Jemi and Yastika on what lengths to bowl. But you have to still execute. I would say our bowlers executed 80% of the balls. I think the follow up ball after a boundary was also great.

[On Nandani Sharma] She's just brilliant. We spoke in the huddle what character she is. She comes with a lot of fire. We saw in the WPL how she bowled for Delhi Capitals. On debut, to come after bowling two overs which were a bit expensive, it's amazing to see. For a debut, it's incredible to see the confidence these guys get these days."
Charlie Dean (England Women Captain): "(What happened after the first over of the match?) Yeah, I think two early wickets was great but I felt that they still kept scoring runs. Jemi and Yastika put on a brilliant show. We failed to break the partnership early. With wickets in hand, they finished off the innings really well. It was a disappointing show for us with the bat. We just faltered away in the end.

(On their bowling performance in the second half of the 1st Innings) Yeah, I think the girls put on a really good performance on hot conditions over here. We bounced back in the second half of the innings. There were elements of real positivity in the end. Our energy in the field was great, too. It was disappointing obviously not to get over the line.

(On allowing too many runs to be scored after getting off to a good start) Yeah, I think we played similar cricket down in Canterbury. Obviously in terms of wickets, we couldn't break the partnership quickly enough tonight. We bounced back pretty well against New Zealand. Disappointing to have a similar situation tonight. We need to learn how to break momentums and yeah, swing it back towards us.

(Positive points tonight) Yeah, Tilly was brilliant. I love the way she goes about her business. Amy was brilliant too. Asked her to do a different role and she did a fabulous job.

(Is she missing the experience of NSB?) Well, today it was a massive partnership which we failed to break. Unfortunately we failed to stitch a few partnership with the bat which obviously would've made the run chase interesting. So yeah, we are working on our younger middle order and we have full faith that they will come through."
Jemimah Rodrigues (Player of the Match): "[On her partnership with Yastika] I think a lot of credit goes to Yastika for the way she played. She was striking at 200. The partnership was crucial. We assessed the conditions.

[On the chat with Yastika while batting] I think we just speaking about how to play the situation. At that time, England were cruising. It was important to stay patient. Play smart cricket.

[On the surface] Initially, there was a bit of hold. Lauren Bell was getting some assistance. It was a bit slower for an English wicket.

[On her tempo while batting in T20s] It is a bit of both. With T20, one extra fielder is inside the circle. I trust my instincts and back myself. It's important to stay smart while batting.

[Does she enjoy fielding?] I really enjoy fielding. It felt like a yo-yo session today. I loved being in the hotspot.

2:09 AM IST & 9:39 PM Local Time: A brilliant all-round performance from India Women here in the opening game of the series as they outclass England Women with a commanding 38-run victory. The Women in Blue were dominant in all departments and have now taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Earlier in the evening, England won the toss and elected to field first here in Chelmsford. The decision worked brilliantly right away for the hosts as Lauren Bell struck twice in the opening over to remove both the Indian openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. However, Issy Wong leaked 27 runs in the second over and that immediately shifted the momentum back towards India Women's Cricket Team. India capitalized beautifully and raced to 73/2 at the end of the Powerplay, which is now their highest-ever Powerplay score against England in Women’s T20Is.

It was a magnificent counterattacking effort from Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia as the duo stitched together a superb 126-run stand off just 76 balls for the third wicket. Both batters kept the scoreboard moving with aggressive stroke play and completely took the game away from England during the middle overs. However, both of them fell in the same over which gave the hosts a small opening to bounce back into the contest. From a commanding 133/2, India lost momentum slightly in the latter half of the innings with wickets falling regularly. A valuable late cameo from Deepti Sharma, who scored 22 off just 13 balls, helped India finish with a strong total of 188/7 from their 20 overs. Lauren Bell was the standout bowler for England with excellent figures of 3/34

In reply, England failed to get the ideal start to the chase. Sophia Dunkley looked positive during her short stay but her cameo ended at 16 off 10 balls. Kranti Gaud then struck again in her next over to dismiss Alice Capsey as England lost both their openers inside the Powerplay. Amy Jones and Heather Knight tried to steady the innings with an important partnership in the middle and added 64 runs together. However, Knight never really found fluency during her innings and struggled to accelerate.

The crucial stand was eventually broken by Shree Charani as Heather Knight departed for 21 off 24 deliveries. Amy Jones continued to fight hard and played a fine innings of 67 off 48 balls, but once she was dismissed, England’s hopes faded quickly. The hosts suffered a dramatic collapse from 120/3 to 129/7 as India tightened the screws brilliantly with the ball. Smriti Mandhana led her side superbly on the field and India’s catching effort throughout the evening was outstanding as well. England eventually finished on 150/8, handing India a commanding 38-run victory in the opening T20I of the series. Nandani Sharma (3/34), on Debut, was the pick of the bowlers for India Women. Stay tuned for the Post-Match Presentation!

1 A low full toss on the stumps, 98 kmph, Bell hits it along the ground to long on for a run. Dean wants the second but is sent back in time. A direct hit but Dean drags her bat inside the crease in time. England finish on 150/8 as they lose the game by 38 runs. A convincing victory for India as they take an early lead in the series.
