In the CPL 2026, a dramatic episode unfolded involving Johnson Charles during the fixture between St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and Barbados Tridents on Wednesday morning.
Known as the biggest festival in cricket, Match 23 of the ongoing season showcased never-before-seen drama on the field.
The Patriots opener, Johnson Charles, who bagged the Player of the Match award against the Tridents, survived one of the most dramatic episodes in CPL history, getting another lifeline after the TV umpire gave him out.

In the chase of 218 runs against the Barbados Tridents, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots’ opener Johnson Charles almost had a dramatic end to his innings off Ramon Simmonds.
In the fourth over, Charles mistimed a slog off a waist-high full toss, resulting in the ball skying towards deep square leg, where Sherfane Rutherford took a diving catch. The catch was referred to the third umpire, Carl Tuckett, who initially gave Charles out.

However, the players and coach Simon Helmot sitting in the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots dugout protested Tuckett’s decision, which not only stopped the game for a brief period but also resulted in the TV umpire reversing his decision.

Johnson Charles makes Barbados pay after escaping close shave early on
After escaping a close shave, Johnson Charles made it count for SKNP in the tall chase. He went big in the first half of the innings, stitching a remarkable 112-run partnership with Kyle Mayers, who was just a mere spectator on the other end.
While Mayers scored just almost run-a-ball, Charles annihilated the Barbados bowling, smacking a 45-ball 78, amassing six boundaries and seven biggies.
Although Mujeeb ur Rahman ended the explosive right-hander's stay in the 13th over, he had made the chase lop-sided by then, with SKNP needing just over 10 runs per over after Charles' departure.
Later, Andre Fletcher (22* off 8 balls) and Wanindu Hasaranga (18* off 4) took the team home in with five balls to spare.

Johnson Charles, who hasn’t had a brilliant time in CPL 2026 until the last game, helped St Kitts & Nevis Patriots bag their second victory of the season after five outings.
At the halfway stage, the Jason Holder-led side is in the bottom half of the CPL 2026 Points Table, but with three games to go, they still can turn the tables around to qualify for the playoffs.
After beating Barbados Tridents, SKNP will next face St Lucia Kings on Friday at the Warner Park, Basseterre.
