The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is just around the corner, as the marquee event will take place in India and Sri Lanka. 20 teams will participate in the World Cup, and India will enter as the defending champions, having won the tournament in 2024. However, even before the competition has begun, teams have been hit with injuries to key players.
All the sides have revealed their T20 World Cup squad, but some of the teams might have to tinker with their lineup as injuries have ruined their gameplan. Here is a list of all players who have been ruled out of the World Cup due to injuries.
1) Adam Milne
Adam Milne, the tearaway Kiwi pacer, was included in the original squad for the World Cup, but he suffered a hamstring injury while bowling in the SA20 competition that ruled him out of the tournament. Hamstring injuries take time to heal, and with the World Cup nearby, the Black Caps management decided to replace him with Kyle Jamieson.
Jamieson is currently playing in the T20I series against India and has different skillsets to Milne.
2) Donovan Ferreira
Ferreira was a key player for the Proteas in the World Cup as the player offered a 3-D role (finisher, bowler, and keeper). However, just when his international career was going at a rapid pace, the South African star suffered an injury to his left clavicle.
The injury suffered in the latter half of the SA20, and it has eventually ruled him out of the tournament. Cricket South Africa was swift to react as they replaced him with Tristan Stubbs, and the player is a like-for-like replacement.
3) Naveen-ul-Haq
One of Afghanistan’s premium pacers, Naveen-ul-Haq, has also been ruled out of the T20 World Cup, and it comes as a major jolt for the Asian side. According to reports by Afghanistan Cricket, the right-arm pacer suffered a stress fracture on his right shoulder, and he is set to travel to the UK for further medical assessment.
The ACB has announced Zia-ur-Rahman Sharifi as his replacement for the T20 World Cup. Afghanistan will miss his services as Naveen-Ul-Haq is a brilliant bowler in death overs and now the team doesn't have any reliable pacer in the fag end of the innings.
4) Tony de Zorzi
South African fans were furious when Tony de Zorzi was included in the World Cup squad, but unfortunately for the batter, he will not be able to play a single game in the tournament as the southpaw has suffered a tear in his right hamstring.
Cricket South Africa delayed announcing his replacement as the player was going through intensive physical rehabilitation, but he failed to clear it and was ruled out by the management. In his place, Ryan Rickelton has come into the team.
Rickelton was in excellent form in the SA20 competition and he will enter the World Cup with truckloads of runs on his back as the southpaw is likely to open for the Proteas in the marquee event.
