Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to showcase his dominance at the Under-19 level as the southpaw smacked a 24-ball fifty against Zimbabwe and made a mockery of the opposition bowling attack. India was sent into bat and on a flat wicket, Suryavanshi showed no mercy and slammed a quick-fire fifty.

He reached the half-century milestone in just 24 deliveries, and this turned out to be the joint-second fastest fifty of the ongoing Under-19 World Cup. The fastest was registered by Australia's Will Malajczuk, and India's Ayush Mhatre, and Suryavanshi hold the second position.

Australian batter, Will Malajczuk, holds the record of the fastest fifty as he hammered Japan and scored his runs in just 23 balls. Indian captain, Ayush Mhatre registered a 24-ball fifty vs New Zealand, and interestingly, Suryavanshi’s name comes twice in the list.

Suryavanshi's brilliant Under-19 WC so far

The 14-year-old Indian star came into the World Cup with a weight of expectations as everyone expected him to instantly deliver the goods. It won’t be an understatement that he has lived up to the hype as the batter has played four matches and has racked up 166 runs, with a strike rate in excess of 120.

He was crucial in India’s group stage win over New Zealand as the batter scored crucial 40 runs off 23 balls, and was once again India’s key batter in the Super 6 clash against Zimbabwe. The southpaw has constantly given aggressive starts to India, and it has benefited the team in the group stage as India went undefeated, winning three out of three.

Suryavanshi's knock puts India in driving seat vs Zimbabwe

Against the Zimbabwe side, Suryavanshi, alongside Aaron George, gave a quickfire start to India as the duo added 44 runs inside the 4-over mark. One George was dismissed, the teenage star then staged a crucial partnership alongside captain Ayush Mhatre, and in the process, he racked up a 24-ball fifty.

By the time Suryavanshi got dismissed, India had reached the 100-run mark inside 10 overs and the platform was set for the middle-order batters to capitalise on.

Records broken by Suryavanshi in Under-19 World Cup

Apart from the 24-ball fifty against Zimbabwe and registering the joint second quickest fifty in the ongoing tournament, Suryavanshi has also broken several other records in the ongoing World Cup.

Against Bangladesh in the group stage match, the youngster scored a whirlwind half-century and in the process, he surpassed Babar Azam and Shahidullah Kamal to become the youngest player to score a fifty in the Under-19 World Cup.

Not only Babar, but Suryavanshi also surpassed the Indian legend, Virat Kohli, in a massive feat. He has scored more than 1000 runs in Youth ODIs, and it is now more than Kohli, who has slammed 978 runs. The record for the most runs by an Indian in Youth ODIs is held by Vijay Zol, who accumulated 1,404 runs in 36 matches.

With plenty of matches still to be played, Zol’s record is likely to be shattered by the Indian opener in the near future.
