The fifty-over format is considered a perfect amalgamation of the two formats: modern-day favourite T20s and the long-enduring Tests.
Over the years, batters have redefined the style of batting in the 50-over format, combining aggression and the ability to bat throughout the innings.
Talking about hundreds in ODIs, one cannot ignore the astonishing speed at which some of them have been scored. Thus, in this article, take a look at the list of players with the fastest 100 in ODIs.
From AB de Villiers to Glenn Maxwell: Fastest 100 In ODIs
5) Asif Khan: 100 off 41 balls, UAE vs Nepal
United Arab Emirates (UAE) batter Asif Khan on March 16, 2023, smashed a stunning 41-ball century against Nepal in an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match at Kirtipur.
It is the fifth fastest 100 in ODI history and the fastest by an Associate Nation player. Coming in at number seven, Asif’s explosive innings propelled UAE to a formidable total of 310/6. His knock was particularly brutal at the death, featuring 11 massive sixes and 4 fours.

The Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, smashed the fastest century in the Men's Cricket World Cup and the fourth-fastest 100 in ODI history on October 25, 2023.

3) Shahid Afridi: 100 off 37 balls, Pakistan vs Sri Lanka
Legendary Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi scored a world-record century in just 37 balls against Sri Lanka on October 4, 1996, in Nairobi. Playing in only his first international innings, the 16-year-old Afridi smashed 11 sixes and 6 fours, setting a record for the fastest 100 in ODIs that stood for over 17 years.
He hit 11 massive sixes, tying the world record for the most sixes in an ODI innings at the time. Interestingly, Afridi didn't have his own proper bat and used the bat of his teammate and captain, Waqar Younis (which originally belonged to Sachin Tendulkar).

A record that stood for more than 17 years was finally broken on New Year’s Day in 2014, when New Zealand’s Corey Anderson smashed the West Indies bowlers to score the fastest 100 in ODIs, now the second fastest. Anderson’s 36-ball ton eclipsed Shahid Afridi’s record.
He blasted as many as 14 sixes, two behind Rohit Sharma’s then-held world record of 16, most sixes in an ODI innings. Lastly, Anderson finished unbeaten on 131.
1) AB de Villiers: 100 off 31 balls, South Africa vs West Indies
