The former MI pacer Alzarri Joseph achieved a historic milestone in IPL 2019, while bowling against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the tournament’s 19th match. Mumbai Indians were restricted to the total of 136 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the first innings.

While defending this low total, Alzarri Joseph shone with the ball and ended up with the best-ever bowling figures in an innings in the history of IPL. He claimed a sensational six-fer, picking six wickets for just 12 runs in 3.4 overs, including a maiden over.

On the back of his brilliant bowling figures, MI bundled out SRH at 96 runs and won the game by 40 runs. Notably, Joseph’s record of the best bowling figures in an innings is still unbroken after six editions over almost seven years.

Here, in this article, we’ll have a look at five players who can break Alzarri Joseph’s record of the best bowling figures in an innings in the IPL.

5 Players Who Can Surpass Alzarri Joseph’s IPL’s Best Bowling Figures In An Innings Record

Jasprit Bumrah

The star MI speedster, Jasprit Bumrah, is the leading wicket-taker of all time for his side in the IPL history. His 183 IPL wickets in 145 innings also include three wickets and two five-wicket hauls, including his IPL career’s best bowling figures in IPL 2022.

In IPL 2022’s 56th game against KKR, Jasprit Bumrah claimed an amazing five-wicket haul, picking five wickets for just 10 runs in his four overs, including a maiden over.

Having already registered two of the best bowling figures with two five-wicket hauls in 2022 and 2024, Bumrah is the top contender to break Alzarri Joseph’s record of best bowling figures in an innings in the IPL.

Sunil Narine

The veteran KKR off-spinner, Sunil Narine, achieved his IPL career’s first and only five-wicket haul in his debut season in 2012. It came in the tournament’s 17th game against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) when Narine bagged five wickets for just 19 runs in his four-over spell.

Besides this five-wicket haul, Narine has seven four-wicket hauls to his name in his IPL career so far. Narine’s ability to take wickets and restrict batters from scoring runs places him in contention among the bowlers who can achieve the milestone of ‘best bowling figures in an innings in IPL’.

Yuzvendra Chahal

The experienced leg-spinner for Punjab Kings, Yuzvendra Chahal, is the most successful bowler in the history of IPL in terms of taking wickets. He is leading the list of leading wicket-takers with 221 scalps in 172 innings at an economy rate of 7.96, with eight four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

Chahal also claimed two hat-tricks in his IPL career in the 2022 and 2025 editions. So, he can also be banked on to break Alzarri Joseph’s record and become the bowler with the best-ever bowling figures in an innings in IPL.

Kuldeep Yadav

DC’s left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav is one of the consistent wicket-taking bowlers in IPL since his debut in the 2016 edition. He has scalped 102 wickets in 95 innings of his 98 IPL games, including four four-wicket hauls.

He achieved his IPL career-best bowling figures in IPL 2022, while playing for DC against his former IPL franchise, KKR. It was the 41st match of the tournament when Kuldeep claimed four wickets for just 14 runs in three overs with an excellent economy rate of just 4.66.

His bowling figures restricted KKR to the score of 146 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Later, DC won the game by four wickets, with Kuldeep Yadav winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Considering his mystery wrist spin, Kuldeep might also become the bowler to surpass Alzarri Joseph and register the best ever bowling figure in an innings in IPL.

Arshdeep Singh

The left-arm speedster Arshdeep Singh is the leading wicket-taker of all time for the Punjab Kings. He has picked 97 wickets in 81 innings, including two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. He achieved his IPL career’s best bowling figures in an innings against the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021’s 32nd match.

In this game, Arshdeep bagged five wickets for 32 runs in his 4 overs. However, his efforts went in vain as PBKS failed to chase the 186-run target and lost the game by a narrow margin of just two runs.

Looking at his wicket-taking consistency in both powerplay and the death overs, Arshdeep could also be the bowler who can surpass Alzarri Joseph’s record of best bowling figures in an innings in the tournament.
