The star Punjab Kings spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has established himself as the most successful bowler in the IPL history. He is currently leading the list of the leading wicket-takers of all time in the tournament. Chahal has picked 221 wickets in 172 innings of the 174 games he has played in his IPL career since 2013.

Notably, the veteran leggie has scalped these wickets at an economy rate of 7.96 and a decent bowling strike rate of 17.15, including eight four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. Besides that, he has claimed two hat-tricks to his name in IPL 2022 and IPL 2025.

Meanwhile, some bowlers have been performing consistently well in the IPL and are rising up the wicket-taking rankings. Hence, here’s a look at the 5 players who can surpass Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of most wickets in IPL history.

Sunil Narine (KKR) - 192 wickets

The star KKR spin all-rounder, Sunil Narine, has been the most successful bowler for his side since making his IPL debut 14 years ago in 2012. He has played 189 games for KKR and has bagged 192 wickets in 187 innings, with a commendable economy rate of 6.79, including seven four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

He is currently placed in the third spot on the list of the leading wicket-takers of all time in the IPL, being just 30 wickets away from breaking Chahal’s record of the most wickets in the tournament’s history.

So, the KKR stalwart might surpass Yuzvendra Chahal’s record in the coming two or three seasons, considering his wicket-taking ability.

Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians) - 183 wickets

The Mumbai Indians’ pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, has been leading their pace attack for more than a decade since his first-ever IPL appearance in 2013. He has featured in 145 games, picking 183 wickets in 145 innings at an economy rate of 7.24, including three four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls.

He is the leading wicket-taker in IPL history for the Mumbai Indians. He has played a vital role in guiding MI to win a few titles out of their five IPL trophies.

Jasprit Bumrah’s wicket-taking ability with the new ball and in the death overs could be his weapon to break Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of the most IPL wickets.

Kagiso Rabada (DC/GT/PBKS)

The South African pacer Kagiso Rabada moved to the Gujarat Titans after his IPL appearance with the Punjab Kings in the 2024 edition. However, he could play just four matches for the Titans in IPL 2025.

Before moving to GT, he played for PBKS in three editions from 2022 to 2024 after completing his 2017-2021 stint with DC. Rabada has played a total of 84 games in his IPL career so far and has snared 119 wickets in 84 innings at an economy rate of 8.61, including six four-wicket hauls.

He has been one of the leading wicket-takers in a few IPL seasons, alongside winning the purple cap award in IPL 2020 in Dubai. So, Rabada can also be considered a bowler who can surpass Yuzvendra Chahal to become the leading wicket-taker of all time in IPL.

Kuldeep Yadav (DC/KKR)

The mystery left-arm wrist spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, has been one of the consistent performers with the ball since his IPL debut in the 2016 edition. Kuldeep started his career with KKR and played for them from 2016 to 2020 before moving to DC from IPL 2022 onwards.

In his 98-game IPL career, he has picked 102 wickets in 95 innings, at an economy rate of 8.03, claiming four four-wicket hauls. He is also one of the consistent wicket-takers for the Capitals since the start of his stint with them.

Therefore, Kuldeep Yadav also has a knack for breaking Yuzvendra Chahal’s record in IPL history.

Arshdeep Singh (Punjab Kings)

India’s leading wicket-taker in T20 internationals, Arshdeep Singh, has been playing for the Punjab Kings since he started his IPL career in 2019. After playing only three and eight games in IPL 2019 and 2020, respectively, Arshdeep has emerged as a consistent wicket-taking bowler for the Kings since the 2021 edition.

The 27-year-old has played 82 games, scalping 97 wickets in 81 innings, with an economy rate of 8.99. He also has two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

Arshdeep is just 27, and he seems to have at least eight-nine years left to play in IPL, which makes him one of the top contenders to become the leading wicket-taker of all time in IPL, surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal.
