Spin bowling has always been Adelaide Strikers’ trump card in the Big Bash League. When conditions suit, their spinners don’t just apply pressure, they tear batting line-ups apart.
Over the years, a handful of spells have stood out, the kind that turn matches on their head and leave batters second-guessing every step down the pitch. Let’s take a look at the top five best bowling figures by Adelaide Strikers’ spinners in BBL history.
Adelaide Strikers’ spinners 5 best figures in BBL
Rashid Khan: 4/22 vs Sydney Sixers, Adelaide 2020
On a night when runs were hard to come by, Rashid Khan quietly ran the show. Defending a modest total of 135, the Strikers needed early breakthroughs, and Rashid delivered just that.
He removed Daniel Hughes, James Vince, Jordan Silk, and Jack Edwards, ripping the heart out of the Sixers’ middle order. His figures of 4/22 kept the chase on a tight leash and forced mistakes under pressure, even though the Sixers eventually scraped home late in the innings.
Tabraiz Shamsi: 4/15 vs Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide 2026*
Tabraiz Shamsi produced a classic left-arm spin masterclass at Adelaide Oval in BBL 2025-26. Bowling slow, wide and with plenty of loop, Shamsi lured batters into playing shots they didn’t need.
He dismissed Will Sutherland, Sam Elliott, Brendan Doggett and Michael Archer, completely collapsing the Renegades’ lower order. His spell of 4/15 wrapped the innings up inside 17 overs and ensured the Strikers had the game sewn up well before the chase even began.
D’Arcy Short: 4/15 vs Brisbane Heat, Adelaide 2025
Often known for his batting fireworks, D’Arcy Short showed everyone that he is just as dangerous with the ball. Defending a massive total of 251, Short bowled with absolute accuracy and control.
He snagged four crucial wickets including Jack Wood, Max Bryant, Colin Munro and Spencer Johnson. His 4/15 completely stalled Brisbane’s chase and ensured the Heat never seriously threatened despite the flat pitch.
Rashid Khan: 6/17 vs Brisbane Heat, Brisbane 2022
This was Rashid Khan at his ruthless best. On a Brisbane surface where batters usually cash in, Rashid changed the script entirely. He tore through the Heat lineup, picking up six wickets and triggering a dramatic collapse from 62 for three to all out for 90.
His victims included Sam Heazlett, Jake Lehmann, Will Prestwidge, Matthew Kuhnemann, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Liam Guthrie. 6/17 away from home was total destruction and one of the most dominant spells in BBL history.
Ish Sodhi: 6/11 vs Sydney Thunder, Sydney 2017
This spell sits at the very top and rightly so. Ish Sodhi produced absolute magic against the Thunder, bowling with drift, dip and sharp turn. One wicket became two, two became four and suddenly the Thunder were in complete free fall.
In their defence of 178 run total, Sodhi dismissed Ben Rohrer, Carlos Brathwaite, Jay Lenton, Chris Green, Arjun Nair, and Clint McKay, finishing with jaw-dropping figures of 6/11 in just 3.3 overs. The Thunder were skitled for 101 and the match was wrapped up in a flash.
