What If RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Final Gets Washed Out (Source: AFP)
The stage is set for a blockbuster clash as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) prepare to take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2026 final. The much-awaited RCB vs GT match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31.
The final promises an exciting battle between RCB’s powerful batting lineup and GT’s disciplined bowling attack. Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar have been among the top performers for Bengaluru, while Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada will lead Gujarat’s bowling unit.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans will rely heavily on openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan to provide a strong start against RCB’s experienced pace attack.
RCB vs GT IPL 2026 Final Journey So Far
RCB enjoyed an impressive campaign throughout the season. They started with two consecutive victories before suffering a defeat against Rajasthan Royals.
Following that setback, RCB quickly regained momentum and continued their excellent form. As a result, they finished at the top of the points table with nine wins from 14 matches and a net run rate of 0.783.
Furthermore, RCB secured a direct place in the IPL 2026 final after registering a dominant 92-run victory over Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at Dharamshala.
On the other hand, Gujarat Titans experienced a difficult start to the season. They lost their first two matches, creating early pressure on the team.
Nevertheless, GT bounced back strongly and remained consistent during the league stage. Consequently, they also finished with nine wins from 14 matches. Even so, their NRR of 0.695 placed them second behind RCB.
Thereafter, Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2, earning another chance to face RCB in the grand finale.

Is There A Reserve Day For IPL 2026 Final?
Unlike other IPL 2026 playoff matches, the IPL final has a designated reserve day. Therefore, if rain interrupts the RCB vs GT IPL 2026 final and prevents the match from being completed on May 31, officials can shift the contest to June 1.
At present, weather forecasts suggest only a small chance of rain in Ahmedabad. Even so, cricket authorities have several options in place if bad weather affects play.
Initially, officials will attempt to complete a full match. If delays continue, the number of overs may be reduced. Nevertheless, a minimum of five overs per side is required for an outcome.
In addition, play must begin before the revised cut-off time, which is usually around 11:55 PM IST for a scheduled 7:30 PM start. If a shortened match cannot take place, match officials may consider a standalone Super Over, provided conditions improve before the final cut-off time, generally around 12:50 AM IST.
What Happens If Rain Continues On Reserve Day?
If weather conditions do not allow any play on the original match day, the final will move to the reserve day on June 1. However, if rain washes out the reserve day as well, the IPL has a clear rule to determine the champion.
In that situation, the team that finished higher in the IPL league-stage points table will be declared the winner. Since RCB finished first in the standings, they would be crowned IPL 2026 champions if no play is possible on either day.
Has An IPL Final Ever Been Played On A Reserve Day?
Yes, there has been rare one such instance in IPL history. In 2023, the final between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans was shifted to the reserve day after persistent rain disrupted play on the scheduled date in Ahmedabad. The match eventually took place on the following day, and CSK emerged victorious to claim their fifth IPL title.
