Since lifting the inaugural IPL trophy in 2008, the Rajasthan Royals have remained one of the league’s most captivating and unpredictable sides. However, throughout the next 17 editions of the tournament, the franchise has repeatedly fallen short of replicating its earliest success.

For the upcoming IPL 2026, the Royals seems to have assembled a formidable squad featuring players that might well play defining roles in their campaign. Apart from retaining its core group of players from the previous season and making a few new purchases on the day of the IPL 2026 auction last December, the current set-up also features a poetic homecoming of a former Royal.

As Rajasthan Royals gear up for IPL 2026, here we take a look at three potential X-factors who could help the team end its 18-year title drought.

Rajasthan Royals’ 3 X-Factors for IPL 2026

1. Lhuan-dre Pretorius

Even though Lhuan-dre Pretorius made just a solitary appearance for the Rajasthan Royals during his IPL debut campaign last year, the youngster has already enjoyed success under a different Royals setup.

The then 19-year-old first shot himself to global prominence with a prolific debut SA20 season in early 2025, plundering 397 runs for the Paarl Royals in just 12 innings at a splendid average of 33.08 and with a staggering strike rate of 166.80.

With a penchant for making the powerplay count, Pretorius could provide Rajasthan Royals with another fearless top-order option alongside Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal if handed a longer run in IPL 2026. While he predominantly operates as an opener for Paarl Royals, the explosive left-hander also possesses the flexibility to slot in at number three for Rajasthan.

In any case, his inclusion in the playing XI could hand the Royals an extremely aggressive top order, regardless of whether the young South African opens the innings or bats at first drop.

2. Shubham Dubey

A powerful middle-order batter for Vidarbha in India’s domestic circuit, Shubham Dubey has rarely had the opportunity to showcase his true potential with the Rajasthan Royals. Although he has featured in 13 matches for them across the last two editions of the tournament, the left-hander was mostly reserved for late cameos.

In his 11-inning IPL career so far, Dubey has bludgeoned 139 runs with a staggering strike rate of 163.52. In T20 cricket overall, the 31-year-old has so far aggregated 758 runs in 34 innings at a healthy average of 36.09 and with a breathtaking strike rate of 153.75.

As Shubham Dubey enters his third IPL season, it is about time the Rajasthan Royals management entrusted him with a more prominent role in the batting order in a bid to fully harness his explosive potential.

3. Vaibhav Suryavanshi

At first glance, Vaibhav Suryavanshi may appear an obvious candidate on this list, but his influence on the Royals’ campaign could be far more significant than it initially seems. Ever since breaking into the Royals setup during IPL 2025 at the tender age of 14, the youngster has continued to impress across every stage he has featured in, be it in India’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, the national U19 tours, or in the recently-concluded ICC U19 World Cup 2026 in Zimbabwe.

On the day of the final itself, the explosive left-handed opener blasted 175 from just 80 balls against England. His innings largely mirrored his record-shattering 38-ball 101 against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, the same knock that put him firmly in the spotlight during IPL 2025.

On a trail of a generational run, in the extremely earlier stages of his career no less, Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be aiming to justify his Rajasthan Royals retention and take his side a step closer to ending its title-drought.

With the three aforementioned players expected to play key roles, here is a look at the complete squad:
