The IPL 2026 match between PBKS and DC witnessed horror scenes as Delhi Capitals player, Lungi Ngidi, sustained a nasty head injury, and he was ruled out of the game as the fast bowler was taken off the field in an ambulance.
The injury occurred during the Punjab Kings' batting, when Priyansh Arya mistimed a shot in the air, and Ngidi tracked back to grab the catch, but he misjudged it and fell right on his head as he failed to even get up.
The match was halted for several minutes as Ngidi received treatment, and was carerfully taken off the ground in an ambulance as Dushmantha Chameera replaced him in the main XI.
Ngidi’s injury was a huge blow for the Capitals as the South African was DC’s best bowler by a country mile. With him ruled out from the game, and most likely from the tournament, here are 3 players who can replace him in the DC squad.
3 Potential Players Who Could Replace Lungi Ngidi in DC IPL 2026 squad
1) Sean Abbott
The Australian pacer, Sean Abbott is known for his accurate lines and lengths and has a deceptive pace that troubles the best in the business. He can bowl the hard lengths, something which Lungi Ngidi has mastered, and he can bowl a bit fuller to get the lateral movement from the surface.
Abbott is an experienced T20 operator, having played 208 games and scalped 269 wickets. The pacer has a decent economy of 8.62, and he could be a strong contender to replace the injured Ngidi.

2) Simarjeet Singh
Simarjeet Singh is an underrated Indian bowler who has played in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. Recently, he was present at the KKR trials, but the franchise decided not to pursue him. However, this could be a blessing for the Capitals if they want to acquire an Indian pacer.
The right-arm pacer, who plays for Delhi in the domestic tournaments, knows the Arun Jaitley Stadium at the back of his hands, and could be a handy option for the Delhi Capitals. In 42 T20 games, the pacer has racked up 47 wickets, with an economy of 8.73.
If the team doesn't want an overseas option to replace Ngidi, Simarjeet could be a smart Indian choice.
3) Jhye Richardson
Another Australian who makes the cut is Jhye Richardson. He is similar to Ngidi in terms of lines and lengths as both pacers love to hit the deck hard. He has a whippy action, and Richardson’s best ability is to swing the ball both ways at a quick pace.
Moreover, he has an even better record than Abbott in the T20s, as the right-arm seamer has played 104 T20 games and has scalped 135 wickets, with an economy of 8.09, which is the best amongst the three names mentioned in the list.
He had a terrific BBL 2025/206, where Richardson played seven games, and picked up 11 wickets for the Perth Scorchers.
