Sanju Samson pulled off a lightning fast stumping against Gujarat Titans in match number 37 of the IPL 2026 season. Keeping wickets in the absence of a recovering MS Dhoni, the blistering stumper caught Titans skipper and well-set opener Shubman Gill centimeters in the air before dislodging the bails off a Noor Ahmad wide.
Incidentally, the occasion sparked memories of a similar act from Dhoni himself, who once deceived the same batter in the final of the IPL 2023 season at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
When MS Dhoni sealed a huge IPL 2023 final moment
Back in May 2023 in the final of the IPL 2023 season, MS Dhoni pulled out of the quickest stumpings in recent memory to get rid of a well-set Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill. The incident occurred in the seventh over of the game when Gill raced to 39* off 19 balls.

In the last ball of the Ravindra Jadeja over, the Titans opener failed to read the spinner’s turning delivery outside the off-stump. With Jadeja’s fuller length drawing the batter slightly out of his crease, wicketkeeper MS Dhoni collected the ball and whipped the bails off in a flash.
The occasion also marked the 300th dismissal of Dhoni’s T20 career, doing so in his 250th IPL game.

Same team, same victim, 3 years apart
Nearly three years later at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai, Shubman Gill once again found himself getting bested by a CSK wicketkeeper in an IPL game. This leading the Gujarat Titans franchise in match number 37 of the IPL 2026 season, the elegant opener raced to 33* off 23 balls after his side to a cracking powerplay start.
However, in the second ball of the seventh over of the run chase, Gill got deceived by a Noor Ahmad wide down the leg side. With his back foot sliding just outside the crease, Sanju Samson neatly collected the ball and dislodged the bails with his right hand.

With MS Dhoni still recovering, his de facto replacement behind the stumps, Sanju Samson, delivered a dismissal straight out of vintage CSK archives.
Titans cruise to comfortable win over CSK
While MS Dhoni’s street smart glovework from the IPL 2023 handed the CSK franchise its fifth IPL title, Sanju Samson’s wicketkeeping brilliance could not halt a rampant Gujarat Titans in cruising towards a comfortable win.
Batting first, a sublime 74* off 60 balls from captain Ruturaj Gaikwad ensured the hosts chart a competitive total of 158-7 in 20 overs. For the Titans, legendary fast bowler Kagiso Rabada scalped three wickets in his tight four-over spell of 3-25. Arshad Khan also picked up two wickets in the innings.
In response, Shubman Gill started off the Gujarat Titans run chase with a strong powerplay phase. Sai Sudharsan went on to mint 87 runs from 46 balls with four fours and seven huge sixes. Jos Buttler at number three also belted 39* off 30 as the Titans cruise to a comfortable eight-wicket win in just 16.4 overs.
