Although IPL 2027 is still more than a year away, the trade market has already become one of the biggest talking points.
At the centre of all the talks is Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya, whose future with the five-time champions continues to grab headlines after the team's disappointing IPL 2026 campaign.
Mumbai Indians finished ninth in IPL 2026, prompting the franchise to conduct a performance review of several players. Since then, reports have linked Hardik with several teams, especially Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) have also reportedly shown interest in the star Indian all-rounder.
Will Hardik Pandya Leave Mumbai Indians Before IPL 2027?
Mumbai Indians have dismissed any reports suggesting that trade discussions involving Hardik Pandya are already underway. Speaking to Sportstar, an MI spokesperson said the franchise is currently carrying out its post-season review before making any decisions regarding the squad.
“Our post-season review is currently on and we are looking into all aspects of the team. Contrary to reports, we are not engaged in conversations with regard to player trades; the same is only possible once the review is complete, a Mumbai Indians spokesperson told Sportstar.
“A range of options and ideas are being evaluated, which require time, hence no decisions have been made." he added.

It is important to mention that there is a chance that Mumbai Indians might take a bold step ahead of IPL 2027 regarding the leadership group, coaching staff and overall cricket operations.
According to the same report (Sportstar), Hardik has reportedly parted ways with Mumbai Indians’ talent management arm; however, this development is not being seen as confirmation that he will leave the franchise.
At the same time, Hardik remains one of the most valuable Indian players in the IPL. If he eventually becomes available, there is expected to be significant interest from multiple franchises.
Hardik Pandya's Trade Rumours Timeline So Far
It is worth noting that speculation around Hardik Pandya’s trade began during IPL 2026 itself. Reports claimed that after facing a difficult season in IPL 2026, the all-rounder had informed the Mumbai's management about his desire to explore a move elsewhere.
- It all started with CSK willing to trade Hardik for IPL 2027; however, later on, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan stated that no official trade proposal had been discussed.
- Later in July, reports suggested that trade talks between Mumbai Indians and CSK had reached an advanced stage before hitting a deadlock. According to reports, MI initially wanted Shivam Dube and young batter Ayush Mhatre in return.
- CSK reportedly refused to include Mhatre and instead proposed including Shivam Dube, Dewald Brevis and ₹10 crore in cash.
- As discussions reportedly slowed down, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders also entered the picture. Reports claimed Delhi Capitals were willing to explore a deal involving captain Axar Patel and opener Prithvi Shaw, while KKR were considering either a major cash offer or a player swap featuring Rinku Singh.
KKR And Delhi Capitals Ready If CSK Deal Falls Through
While CSK is considered the favourites in Hardik Pandya’s rumoured race, there is still no agreement between the two franchises. If negotiations fail, other teams like KKR, DC and now even RR are in the line to get Hardik.
It is vital to note that this is not the first time Hardik Pandya has been involved in a blockbuster IPL trade. In 2023, he left the Gujarat Titans and returned to the Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal worth ₹15 crore.
