Milestone
That's it from the coverage of this game where we have seen another one-sided game in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Do join us tomorrow for the India Bangladesh game from Pune. Stick around to our network for all the pre-match build up and then live match action as well. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide, AkshayaKrishna Polya, Sidharth Gulati alongside scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodnight and CHEERS!
Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): "Yes, a pleasing start and a great performance today. The way we came back after being put under pressure and came well with the ball showed quality that we have and possess.

It was all about building partnership and we hung in there. They bowled well and we got lucky. But it was about keeping it deep and see how we finish was important for us.

The way we started with the bat and then ball as well showed character from our end. We really stick to the basics. Mitchell Santner bowled well after the opening bowlers started well.

Yes, we are ready for the game in Dharamsala. We need to adapt quickly and feel quite comfortable in playing against India. Looking forward to it."
Hashmatullah Shahidi (Afghanistan Captain): "Really disappointed to drop catches, you have to take those at these levels. End of the day, those dropped catches hurt you. The team has done well, but because of those catches, we have lost the game.

During the last 6 overs of the first innings, New Zealand scored too many runs. We tried our best, but things didn't go our way. Because we dropped a couple of catches before the 40th over, we couldn't stop the set batters. We have failed to stop them.

Yeah, the toss, I can say that you can't judge much. First innings as well, it did spin a bit. But one thing I can confirm is that we could have done well. We did bowl well, but the fielding has let us down.

Tonight will definitely hurt us, but we have more games remaining in the tournament. We have got Pakistan next, and we will certainly do way much better than tonight. We will talk about it and try to improve wherever we can in the coming matches."

Glenn Phillips (Player of the Match): "Obviously, the Afghan spinners are extremely talented and we lost wickets in the middle overs. So really happy with the way me and Tommy played in the middle overs.

Here in Chennai, the pitch is a bit dusty and we understood what we possibly could get in the last 10 overs. We took it till the end and made sure that we ended on a high with  the power game.

We thought, if we stayed till the end, we could get 60 in the last six overs. If we can get to 180, it would be good but 250 or around 260 would have been a par score here. Also, credit to Santner and Chapman for finishing the innings they did.

Team first mentality always helps. It's always good when the players are contributing to the team's success and hope we keep improving in the future."
