A talented medium-pacer, Shabnam Md Shakil, hails from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She took up cricket at the age of eight after seeing her father, Md. Shakil, who was a medium pacer in club cricket.
Until 2021, Shabnam featured in district-level matches. However, the young speedster forayed into the national side in the 2021-22 season.
The right-arm medium pacer represented India B in the Women’s U19 T20 Quadrangular Series, which featured other teams like India A, Sri Lanka, and West Indies, bagging two wickets in three appearances.
In the latter part of 2022, the Visakhapatnam-born picked three wickets in as many appearances against the New Zealand Women’s U-19 team.
After that, the 15-year-old impressed with five wickets in three matches in the South Africa U-19 Tour. Then, Shabnam was the youngest member in the Indian contingent for the U-19 T20 World Cup 2023, wherein she picked a solitary wicket in two matches.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction witnessed Gujarat Giants snapping Shabnam for INR 10 Lakhs.
