Son of former West Indies captain, Floyd Reifer, Raymon Reifer is a rare commodity in today’s world. He started out as a pure batting allrounder, but over the years has turned into a genuine bowling allrounder for his domestic side.
Cricket is in his blood and he started to play this beautiful game at a very young age. A left-arm medium-pacer, known to break the long partnerships, Reifer made his first-class debut for Combined Campuses and Colleges in 2011.
After toiling at the domestic level and jotting down impressive numbers, Reifer finally received his maiden international call-up in the 2016-17 home season. He was included in the West Indies Test squad to face the touring England side. However, despite performing well for his domestic team, Reifer was ignored from the playing XI.
His dream was finally realized against New Zealand in October 2017. West Indies toured New Zealand and Reifer was drafted in the playing XI for the first Test match of the series. He didn’t have any eye-catching performances, but impressed everyone with his solid technique, especially against the moving deliveries.
Two years later, Reifer was given another chance to impress the selectors, when he was included in the Tri-Series tournament that featured Ireland and Bangladesh. Moreover, he was also included as a reserve player in the Windies squad for the 2019 World Cup.
A bustling all-round player, Reifer is arguably one of the most talented cricketers to have come out of the Windies domestic circuit. Not only is he a wicket-taking bowler, but he also has the extraordinary ability to clear the fence with utmost precision.
