Prashant Solanki is an Indian leg-spin bowler who plays domestic cricket for Maharashtra and represents Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Born on February 22, 2000, Solanki is known for his traditional wrist-spin, sharp googlies, and ability to deceive batters with subtle variations.

Over the years, the leg-spinner has developed into a reliable white-ball spinner and earned IPL opportunities with franchises such as Chennai Super Kings before joining KKR ahead of the 2026 season.

Prashant Solanki’s Early Life and Background

Prashant Solanki was born on February 22, 2000, and grew up in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Like many young cricketers in India, he initially aspired to become a batter. However, his fascination with spin bowling gradually took over when he realised how difficult it was for batters to read quality wrist spin.

During the COVID-19 lockdown period, Solanki underwent a major physical transformation, reportedly shedding nearly 20 kilograms to improve agility and endurance.

Prashant Solanki’s Domestic Career

Prashant Solanki’s domestic career began with Mumbai before he later moved to Maharashtra. His early appearances in domestic tournaments showcased his knack for producing breakthroughs and controlling the middle overs with classic wrist spin.

Apart from domestic tournaments, Solanki has also been a standout performer in franchise-based leagues. He became one of the most successful bowlers in the Maharashtra Premier League (MPL) while representing Eagle Nashik Titans, emerging as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker over multiple seasons. 

Prashant Solanki’s IPL Career

Prashant Solanki’s IPL journey is a story of perseverance, beginning as a net bowler before earning opportunities at the highest level.

His first big break came when he joined the Chennai Super Kings as a net bowler during the 2021 IPL season in the UAE. Impressed by his control and sharp leg-spin, the CSK management—reportedly including captain MS Dhoni—kept a close watch on his progress.

He made his IPL debut on May 15, 2022, against the Gujarat Titans. During that season, Solanki featured in two matches and took two wickets, both against Rajasthan Royals, while maintaining an economy rate just above six runs per over.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, Solanki began a new chapter when Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for INR 30 lakh at the December 2025 auction.
