Another locally produced tall seamer, Matt Salisbury is a professional English cricketer who started his cricketing journey playing for Essex in age-group cricket. After heavily impressing everyone in the u-15s and u-17s, Salisbury was finally given a long-term deal in 2013.
The Chelmsford-born pacer won opportunities in all formats in his debut season but was soon shown the door by Essex. The youngster moved around from team to team trying to find a place in the second XI and after impressing with Durham on loan from MCC Young Cricketers in 2018, he was roped in by the County.
After signing on a one-month loan deal, Salisbury’s exceptional performances persuaded Jon Lewis to sign the former Essex man on a full-time contract until 2020 which was later extended until 2022. Salisbury chipped in with 7 wickets and 25 runs off 147 deliveries in support to Harte’s century to secure an unbelievable turnaround victory in his debut against Derbyshire.
Since penning down a full-time contract, Salisbury has gradually progressed into the first XI of Durham. An eye-catching cricketer, his exploits with the bat lately have proved vital to the County along with his wide array of bowling skills.
