Kartik Tyagi’s Early Life and Background
Growing up, Kartik Tyagi faced scepticism from his local community for choosing cricket over traditional work. However, his family stood by him, even making personal sacrifices to fund his training and development.
Inspired by fast bowlers like Brett Lee, Tyagi developed a strong, energetic bowling action and focused on building pace from a young age. His early struggles and disciplined training laid the foundation for his rise as a professional cricketer.
Kartik Tyagi’s Domestic Career
Kartik Tyagi made his first-class Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh in 2017 at just 16 years of age. Despite his young age, he showed promise in generating pace and picking wickets.
His early domestic journey was briefly interrupted by injuries, but he returned stronger, gradually establishing himself as a reliable fast bowler. His performances in red-ball cricket have reflected his ability to bowl long spells while maintaining pace and discipline.
Kartik Tyagi’s U19 Career
Kartik Tyagi first grabbed attention during the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, where he played a crucial role in India’s run to the final. Finishing as one of the team’s leading wicket-takers, he consistently delivered with both pace and control.
His standout moment came in the quarter-final against Australia, where he produced a match-winning spell of 4/24, dismantling the opposition’s top order while defending a modest total.
Following his impressive U19 World Cup, Tyagi was included as a net bowler for India’s 2020–21 tour of Australia. In a practice match for India A against Australia A, Tyagi made headlines after delivering a sharp bouncer that struck Will Pucovski.
Despite not making his debut, his presence was valued within the squad. With multiple injuries in the squad at the time, he was considered very close to earning his maiden cap.
Kartik Tyagi’s IPL Career
Kartik Tyagi’s IPL journey began when the Rajasthan Royals signed him ahead of the 2020 season. He made his debut the same year and quickly gained attention for his pace and composure under pressure.
One of the defining moments of his IPL career came in 2021, when he successfully defended just four runs in the final over against the Punjab Kings, conceding only one run and earning the Player of the Match award.
In 2022, he was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for a higher price. However, limited opportunities and injuries affected his consistency, and he was eventually released after two seasons.
He later joined the Gujarat Titans in 2024 as a backup pacer before moving to the Kolkata Knight Riders for the 2026 season, where he was signed for INR 30 lakh.
