Western Australia’s production line of allround talent has been buzzing in recent seasons, and Charis Bekker is one of the brightest names to emerge from it — a poised right-hand batter and crafty left-arm spinner who has steadily climbed the ranks since making her WNCL debut as a teenager.

Born on 14 March 2004, Bekker grew up through the WA Cricket academy pathway, polishing her all-round skillset at Subiaco-Floreat Cricket Club. What separated her early on wasn’t just her balance as a dual-skill player, but her temperament. Coaches have long noted her calmness: unflustered while batting, disciplined while bowling, and sharp in the field.

Bekker broke through for Western Australia on 27 February 2022, and her debut WNCL season quickly showcased her all-round promise. A composed 36 against South Australia* and a tidy 2/25 from 10 overs against Queensland were snapshots of the maturity she already possessed. She followed that momentum with a heavier workload in the 2022–23 WNCL, where she played ten matches, continued to build her batting foundations, and added reliability to WA’s spin stocks.

That form fast-tracked her into national contention, and in December 2022, Bekker earned selection for the Australia Under-19 squad at the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Though her opportunities were limited, she still managed a wicket across two games — valuable exposure on the international stage.

Bekker spent the 2022–23 WBBL season with the Perth Scorchers, learning behind a stacked squad even though she didn’t earn a debut. But her WBBL chapter takes a fresh turn with the Melbourne Renegades signing her for the 2025–26 season, a move that could fast-track her into a more active, impactful role.

For the Renegades, Bekker ticks several boxes: a young left-arm spinner who bowls with control, a middle-order batter capable of absorbing pressure, and an excellent fielder with strong game awareness. She brings the kind of versatility modern WBBL squads crave.

Still only in her early 20s, Bekker is entering the stage where opportunity meets readiness. With WA investing in her development and the Renegades offering a platform, the next WBBL season could be her chance to step out of the shadows and establish herself as a genuine, long-term allround prospect.
