Ben Sears is an emerging right-arm seamer from New Zealand. He has an uncanny action and uses his whole body to push the speed gun towards 140 kmph. Born in Wellington, the pacer was part of the New Zealand U-19 during the World Cup in 2016, where he bowled impressively in testing Bangladesh conditions.
The Wellington born is a shy and well-spoken individual who is also a Law student, apart from being a deadly fast bowler. In the New Zealand domestic set-up, Sears is often compared to Lockie Ferguson in terms of pace. Just like Ferguson, the youngster uses the surface when he bowls an effort ball and has a good bouncer as well.
Sears has emerged from Wellingtonās age group set-up, he has represented the district at the U-17 and U-19 levels. In 2016, he was picked to don the national jersey during the U19 World Cup, where the youngster took 14 wickets in four matches at 18.57. Soon, he was fast-tracked to make his domestic debut for Wellington.
The fast-bowler made his domestic debut during the 2018-19 season and only in one yearās time, Sears was called as one of the most improved cricketers in New Zealand domestic circles by New Zealand's stand-in coach Glenn Pocknall.
By August 2021, the seamer had scalped 28 wickets in 10 FC games at 27.28, including his best of 6 for 43 against Auckland in 2020. He also has splendid numbers in List-A and T20 cricket.
The national selectors could not ignore a talent like Sears for a long time. In 2021, Sears was named in the T20I squads for their tour of Bangladesh and their tour of Pakistan in September that year.
