Aman Rao’s Early Life and Background

Aman Rao’s story stands out as a rare “reverse migration” in modern cricket. Born on June 2, 2004, in Madison, Wisconsin, Aman moved to India when he was just six months old after his father, an IT professional, decided to return to Telangana.

As a child, Aman would simply tag along with his elder brother to practice sessions at Hyderabad’s St John’s Cricket Academy. 

During his teenage years, Aman showed promise in age-group cricket, including standout performances in Under-16 tournaments and a double century that earned him recognition at the National Cricket Academy. 

But his Under-19 phase turned into a frustrating period. Missed selections combined with the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic meant he lost crucial development time and narrowly missed out on representing India at the youth level.

Aman Rao’s Domestic Career

Aman Rao’s domestic career is a story of patience meeting opportunities at the right time. After years of setbacks and waiting, his breakthrough came almost immediately once his eligibility issues were resolved.

He began making noise in age-group cricket, particularly in the Under-16 circuit, where consistent performances—including a double century—highlighted his potential. However, it was only after 2025 that his career truly accelerated.

The defining moment came on January 6, 2026, when Aman Rao smashed an unbeaten 200 off 154 balls against Bengal—becoming the first player from Hyderabad to score a double century in List A cricket. 

Aman Rao’s IPL Career

Aman Rao’s performances in domestic cricket earned him an IPL contract with Rajasthan Royals, who signed him for INR 30 lakh in the 2026 auction.

Identified as a long-term top-order prospect, he brings an attacking mindset and the ability to take on both pace and spin.
