Player Bio

Born on November 4, 1998, in Detroit, Michigan, Agni Dev Chopra is a dynamic American-Indian cricketer known for his flair with the bat and off-spin bowling. A naturally gifted left-handed batter and right-arm off-break bowler, Agni made his mark early in domestic cricket.

He began his cricketing journey in India, captaining the Mumbai Under-19 team before progressing to the Under-23 level. To gain more exposure and playing time, he later moved to represent Mizoram in domestic competitions. His first-class debut was nothing short of sensational, scoring 166 runs against Sikkim. What followed was a historic feat: five centuries in his first four Ranji Trophy matches in January 2024, averaging an impressive 95.87 with a strike rate of 111.80. With this, Agni became the first cricketer ever to hit centuries in each of his first four first-class games.

In the limited-overs format, Agni featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Mizoram, scoring 234 runs in seven matches at a fiery strike rate of 150.96, showing his versatility across formats.

Due to BCCI regulations restricting players without Indian passports, Agni decided to shift his focus to opportunities abroad. Utilising his American citizenship, he qualified as a domestic player in Major League Cricket (MLC) in the United States. His talent didn’t go unnoticed—MI New York signed him as their top domestic pick in the 2025 draft, offering him a $50,000 contract.

Agni comes from a well-known family in the film industry. He is the son of renowned filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and acclaimed film critic Anupama Chopra. With a blend of strong cricketing pedigree and a growing fanbase, Agni Dev Chopra is undoubtedly a rising star to watch on the global cricket stage.
